.  However ..... you should be aware that keeping an open listener on the PUBLIC_CHANNEL (channel 0) puts a demand on the region servers that can create measurable chat lag for others, especially if there are many people within chat range.  This sort of script is quite generally frowned upon, so ask yourself seriously whether this is necessary.

Yes... I did sort of assume demand on servers... especially for what little it is. The data is just a region 'status' at moment, called by me and given to me. Wanted to keep coding and loads LITE on all... (especially ME!).

This morning I have it working with Touch, and that's FINE. Wearing it as a HUD helps.. don't need to cam in order to touch it.

Thanks ALL!! for comments and advice!!  I was so at a mental block there yesterday when digging thru libraries of avial. scripts.

  2. OK.. I'm a beginner here.. tho do know enough to be 'dangerous' with scripting. I've search library for what I'm seeking but didn't find anything. I THINK it's a simple addition to my overall project.

I want a script to 'listen' to Nearby Chat for a specific 4 letter word. When word is entered, then I want to 'continue' to do next task... then reset to idle listening again.

    1.. Listen for WORD

    2. WORD is entered... so continue

    3. Do next thing (got script for this... basically.. Get Data and OwnerSay)

    4. Return to Listen for that WORD again.

May be heading into the tutorials if I can't find anything, which is what I should do.. but I thought I'd ask here first!  Thanks for any comment/help!!

One of Kelly Shergood's? Those are great but quite hard to fly. She's a heli pilot in RL and her SL helicopters are very realistic. They're not stable; you have to be constantly making control inputs.

(I want joystick input for vehicles in SL. You can attach a joystick to SL, but all you can see in LSL are arrow key events from the joystick moves.)

I got a small one that's amphibious (I'll put down on water often.. just to hang out!) It's the AW R-22m really small but I like it. I know of Shergood's.. and may continue shopping, never know what I'll stuff in inventory NEXT!!

I'm a RL pilot too, tho fixed wing... and flight physics do loosely translate into SL. (I'd say SL is much more 'forgiving' than RL flight!) I can regularly 'score' SL fixed wing landings in the 90% ranges. I LUV those new 'landing score' runways!!

Further I have the 3dconnexion mouse... haven't tried it with flight yet.. that's coming UP soon! I tried to use it for avatar walking.. but seems too sensitive for that. It's GREAT for 'fly-cam' shopping tho!!

It's exciting to think about entering our virtual world more fully via VR...but if you've spent any time in Mouselook (more than about thirty seconds) you've seen the huge drawback to that.

"Oooh, look, I'm actually IN the world.  Wow, this is soooo cool."

    "Uh...where's my interface?"

"Gaah, how do I type?  I can't see the keyboard."

There's FS preferences to view your HUD's and interfaces while in Mouselook. Can't click on anything... must exit Mouselook to operate/click things... but viewer will so them. Example is that I view World Map/Mini-Radar... in mouselook as I'm fly my helicopter, Works GREAT (except for changing anything).

  5. My trouble with VR Headsets is that IRL I don't have two good eyes to perceive images. Lazy Eye since birth... than had surgery on it recently. I only keep it 'around' so I look 'normal' for others!!

So basically I live RL with 'flat vision' with very little/if any side view vision.... so don't need costs for VR headset. Have sort'a been looking for a RL game room somewhere... or store to demo something, but really doubt it's going to do much for my virtual life.

strange.. with a VR device... while LL abandoned that years ago

I didn't was to say anything like they might seem to be Sneaky or nothin'!   An ad for SL... promoting Sansar?!

At least there's sompthin' up IRL... not noticed much before. I couldn't believe my eye's when I seen it flash across my screen!!

LL's must be fishin' for the masses to join up.

  7. An annual premium membership (US$72) works out to, after return of L$300 per week stipend, approximately US$1 per month.

Then in that you get rights to free 512sqm Linden Home and right to ‘buy’ another 512sqm lot without ANY further costs. (It’s a mix/match deal... however you choose to setup) . All while ‘living’ on the stipends).

Tho yes... you will be ‘spending ‘ US$72/year on SL.... still I don’t think it’s such a bad deal for getting started inworld. US$6 per month or US$1.38 per week.

Should that not be affordable, learn to live as Basic, for free... is surely possible, even tho you may need to be sharp and work at it!

If you were ejected back to your home, I wonder if that was a security orb rather than a parcel ban line.  I can't recall from other discussions around here, whether or not a HUD can detect parcels with security orbs or not.

Regarding ban lines,  in addition to the HUD mentioned above, if you use the Firestorm Viewer its mini-map shows parcel boundaries and parcels with ban lines.  I've found the FS mini-map to be very useful especially when boating.

If it sent you Home it was most likely an Orb. I’ve only ever gotten stuck in bam line, and sometimes you can Edit yourselves out of them.

I need to check FS mini map a little closer. Do have property lines on but not ban lines

  9. Check out Pathfinder Pro in MP. I’ve not tried it but have put in my fav’s for the moment. At L$250 it doesn’t seem too expensive if it works.

sorry I don’t have a link to post here

    I would love to!

Except... I'm not a developer, so even if I could be in-world when they do those meetings, I'm not sure I'd understand much of anything said in them.

GREAT WORK!! Am glad to see your 360's HERE.. didn't realize it could be posted here as well!! I thought it was only on PLACE pages.

Again.. I'm NOT a photog, so you won't be seeing any from me anytime soon. Further... I may have "TECH" in my name... but that's ONLY a virtual thang!! Really I'm just curious of all techie things.

Now NEXT.... I noticed that the new GTFO Forums page is formatted much the same as this forum. Do you think you can get 360' photos into GTFO! forum also?! Would definitely WANT to see/review/check-out some Hub's before driving/flying up to them in my rig/plane.

  11. I had received a Linden Home with water just 10 steps from patio, Luv’d it, but didn’t keep it (I prefer to trade parcels for pocket L$!!!).

was surprised when I got it, nice sunset thru living room windows too. But neighboring house was blocking sun rise side... and Only a one step between! (So I had a lovely and detail view of his roof, to the east)

then I had another Linden that was 5 or 6 parcels from water.... so I, being a boater type, rezzed my speedboat on MY patio.... POWERED thru neighborhood to waters!!  It worked!!! (And didn’t even have to re-paint the hull)

  12. If you liked the boat (in post above)… there is 'air travel' in SL too (even tho this thread's topic is Road Trips!)

    Here's a link for a free helicopter!

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/mm-R44-Clipper2/6796522            (this vendor "Michie" sells all his things for L$0)

If youi'd prefer to fly an airplane while exploring.. here's an inexpensive one too:  (L$15 right now... display picture shows it at L$1099.. and WORTH IT)

    Enjoy your virtual Wanderings!!

  13. Click "Abandon land" at the bottom of About Land... get that from World>About Land

First, you will get NO L$ at all, it goes to Governor Linden, you'll  no longer 'own' it and loose all rights to do anything with it.

The only advantage is that you'll no longer be responsible for Tier Charges/Fees for it (whether it's free Premium Tier.. or paid tier. (there's no refund for what's already billed/paid)

Do you mean like panorama stuff? Hmmm... it's an idea for an experiment I suppose.

Yes, panorama style... sorry I don't know terms. Tho I understand LL created that Places page to display panorama for viewing in 2d (out-of-world). I've seen a few on there, but not been able to get back to them.     http://places.secondlife.com

It appears they are attempting to 'integrate' land auctions into that page, as well.

  15. That's where LL has put Sansar!

Get those VR googles on... maybe we'll be able to see!  LOL!

I've never went up to look at 'edge'... maybe I'll visit soon. I did look at maps.. checking roads/routes and I think some just RUN OFF over that edge.

About as much as the red one here. FUnny though - the removed picture was a repost from an earlier post, which is still there. ~snorts~ Now whoever flagged with will prolly go through all 537 pages just to find it so they can flag it! ~Laughs~

    Alyona:  (little off topic.. tho)

have you ever tried the 360' photos.. to post on PLACES page? (I'm not a photog even within the extremes of my mesh mind!!) I keep looking for the 360's just out of curiosity.

I love playing golf in SL!

I just went back to one of my favorite courses.. it's still there  Aero Golf. They have a listing in those "PLACES" pages.. for a link, tho no pictures sadly. Some of those 360' photo's would be excellent for them to post there.

When I first joined there they were working to create tennis courts too... didn't see if they got that done.

You have so many cool suggestions, I am in awe. I never heard about SL golf.

You should have your own blog. 🏌️‍♂️

TY! for compliment and vote of confidence!!

I do actually have one started... it was WAY BACK when I was only a lil speck of a mesh thang... and before I became LOST in all things GRID. Been just having way too much fun exploring/finding these virtually endless creations. Maybe I should go back to figure out where it's at, archive old stuff and continue. It's subject centered on a 'build project' that was just way too advanced for me to take on as a Noob. Now I realize that effort is just To Much WORK.... (a four letter word in my books now)

  19. Look up/search Hollywood Airport. There’s others around always... mostly doing their own thing tho.  But I can’t imagine anyone would object to your hanging!

Some pilots are desperately seeking passengers!! You’re likely to be offered a free flight!

otherwise search GTFO, there’s several hundred truck stops, other airports and warehouses with residents coming and going. It’s getting more active and variety of venues are broad!

  20. BTW… get a good FREEBIE Speedboat Here:

    https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Michie-Marine-Sport-Cruiser-SD35/1545739

Oh.. and that Link to Hollywood Airport (above post).. there's MANY boats around and the Starboard Sailboat Group has their main sim at the northwest corner of that sim... Well worth a visit/walking tour.

    ENJOY!! (KEEP those MAPS open!!)

Maps can be shrunk and placed off to side of screen
