  1. You do die a bit quickly on the basic setup of wooden plank and basket and working out what to do but I found the game to be quite spooky and immersive especially if you stay in mouselook. I don`t see a problem with the griefers ambushing you quietly though, that`s part of the game. Forget the corn and run around picking up the coins that people like me don`t bother to pick up when they kill a griefer :smileyhappy:

  2. If I were in your situation I think I would download the latest sl viewer and if the problems reproduce on that viewer then file a jira with a session log and link to this thread. At least then you know it will get looked at by people who are more knowledgable. Seems a bit suspicious that the problen started after the Lumiya session but I know nothing about that so no comment.

    Good luck!:smileyhappy:

Edit: Also noticed that this beta viewer has been around for a few weeks now and part of the release notes read :

"A few users have experienced problems with avatar appearance due to their very specific network configuration. Gray avatars are accompanied by ‘Transferred a partial file’ errors in the SecondLife.log file."

Might be worth a search of your log for that error.

  3. Agrees that just looking at the pics looks like a connection issue and first thought would be try another DNS but you did that. Is this problem specific to one sim or gridwide?......reminds me of a problem I had on a sick region ages ago. Have seen posts where a failing router is to blame but that`s an outside chance.

  4. To me it looks like a connection issue, I notice your bandwith is 500 which suggests you`re using wireless connection. If you`re hardwired you could try a setting between 1000-1300. You could try a lower draw distance it will be less stress for your graphics and may help 224 is probably a bit high for just general use, I tend to keep mine at 125 and go even lower in laggy indoor places. Disabling http textures may help Preferences > Graphics > Rendering > use HTTP for recieving textures, uncheck that box. I used to have http disabled all the time coz it helped to cut down on texture blur but these days it doesn`t make much difference and I don`t get the blur that I used to. I think it`s very specific to your location and connection to sl.

Another thing to consider is that the sl viewer runs fine for you but firestorm doesn`t, suggests that sl viewer code is better suited to your connection, well firestorm should be releasing an update in the 1st or 2nd week of August, it may be that the newer version runs better for you.

Ohh and I would just check that your graphics driver is up to date.

Hope something here helps, good luck :smileyhappy:

  5. You just run windows update from your computer, that message is saying that your operating system (windows I assume) hasn`t been updated. It may cure some of your issues.

  6. Could you post your viewer info here and maybe a picure of the problem at it`s worst. For viewer info just start the viewer and click Help > About Firestorm, no need to log in. You can also save a sl picture to your hard drive at no cost. This could help to solve your problem quicker.  The server side baking code went live Aug/Sept 2013, so has been around a lot longer than a few months

  7. Hi, you`re not dumb at all, this has confused quite a few new users.

When you joined sl the avatars you can chose are of 3 types people, vampires and classic. The first 2 types people  and vampires are what experienced users in sl call "the new mesh avatars" they work a bit differently to the "classic" avatars. Any of the classic avatars will be able to wear the clothes you`ve bought. The mesh av`s are very hard to customize.

  8. Always smile at your healthy cynicism Sassy :smileyhappy:

Think I`ve had two  peeves that made me want kick sl and LL really hard. The first was that my favourite dress top (system layer) ever was always blurry, rebake after rebake after B****Y REBAKE sometimes fixed it, but not always, well ssa did, sooo that`s a positive.

Second, and I sense, maybe like you do that this started to happen after ssa went live ,well maybe 6 months after, or when the http code went live, that my faveourite busy places were full of bald see through people. Maybe it was just that mesh became popular at that time and everyone started wearing it and just overloaded whichever server, I don`t know, but was frustrating enough for me to find out how to file a jira.

    https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-5414

Anyways I keep a lookout for news of this being fixed and the subject sometimes crops up at the TPV meetings and there were a few words, well VERY few words on it this week and interestingly the word  throttle.........ummmmmm.

  9. Sorry I don`t. Maybe you could start a new post about the exact problem and somebody who does know might see it or ask in the answers section where I found that link.

Edit: oh Perries here to the rescue:smileyhappy:

  10. Could those people having this problem copy and paste their viewer info here. Start your viewer but don`t log in, click Help > About Second Life (menu at top lefthand corner)

  11. I assumed that rebake and Ctrl+Alt+R became defunct with the intoduction of serverside baking and pretty sure that I read that somewhere too, although the sl wiki on bake problems says to use rebake it looks suspiciously out of date to me.

Anyways I`m mostly a firestorm user and blurry sys clothing is mostly a thing of the past for me since ssa/ssb.

A quote from the FS wiki on bakefail reads:

    "Avatar Textures Remain Blurry

This also applies if you are a cloud.

The best way to fix this is not via the usual rebake (Ctrl-Alt-R), but instead by right clicking your avatar name tag and selecting Tex.Refresh:

    • Context menu: right click → Texture refresh
    • Pie menu: Right click → Appearance → Tex refresh."

Texture refresh is not a feature on sl viewer though. Are your clothing problems specific to a certain region or does it happen everywhere and what type of connection to sl do you have?

Search opengl second life in google theres page after page of post about the problem.

Ok do that search and apply a filter for results in the past year and there really isn`t many. I did find this which may or may not help the OP.

    http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Opengl-Lost-connection-with-display-Error-7/td-p/2450859

Part of my point to the OP though, is that they won`t get anywhere especially in jira if they can`t demonstrate the problem on the latest viewer using the latest drivers.

  13. Ok, so your first post shows an unspecified version of singularity viewer is it? With an outdated graphics driver.

Your second post shows a bang up to date version of sl viewer with the same outdated graphics driver.

I think anyones advice would be to have an up to date viewer and driver before anything else.

You can also disable opengl vbo in sl viewer if that works for you,

    Preferences> Grahics > Advanced > Hardware
