  1. I don't know what is the cause, I simply received a DEMO item and opened it at NCI (Public Sandbox) but maybe that was just a coincidence. I am using the official SL viewer in its latest version (v3.3) What happens now is that: a) Clicking on Inventory shows a message "Fetching nnn items ..." it remains at the same number for ages and doesn't change unless I relog. Ten it shows a slightly higher or lower number. b) I can use the avatar for moving etc but the inventory is stuck c) I can no longer drop an object to the floor for unpacking it (what one usually does at a public sandbox to RECEIVE a boxed item) d) In the Appearance dialog the "Take Off - Replace current outfit" option is now permanently greyed out. I can remove items one by one though Tried to clear cache and relog many times but the issue persists. I have invested too much time on my avatar to delete it and start all over again. Clearing the cache and relogging doesn't fix the problem. 2. The first time it was about 2198 items. After I restartred because my internet connection went down it showed 273 but it didn't update (number was not becoming less). It remained so until I logged out. Next time I logged in the 273 turned 268 but it also remained so... Then it went up to 277 items. So what on earth is happening to this thing? now I can't unpack ANYTHING, clearing the cache does not resolve the issue.
  3. Today I am experiencing a strange problem with my SL Viewer (3.3). I go to a public sandbox such as NCI (New Citizens Incorportated) and therein I open up my Inventory dialog. At the top of the inventory dialog I see a message: "Fetching 273 items...." or "Fetching 2198 items..." And when I hover the mouse on the Inventory tree widget it displays the "busy" mouse pointer. I can however operate the viewer, I can move the avatar, etc. But if I try to drop a boxed item from the Objects folder into the public sandbox nothing happens, I get the No-No mouse icon meaning it is not possible even though this has been the public sandbox I have been using forever. So now I cannot unbox anything! and worst yet, I cannot change the outfit anymore, it remains showing the progress animation but the outfit never changes. The number given after the "Fetching" word never decreases, I would expect it should decrease as items are downloaded (the internet connection is active) but no, it doesn't and it never finishes. Been trying to go to other public sandboxes but I get logged out every time I try to do it. I tried by clearing the SL Cache and restarting SL Viewer but the problem persists. What can I do about it? it is enervating!
  4. Today I missed an event because it was given in Second Life time of day and I had no idea how to know what is the SL time :( Do you have your SL viewer in SL Time or always in daytime? I haven't seen any SL watch shown on the official viewer.
  5. 1 through 5 are empty I found two from Body & Soul but was wondering if there was more. I'm happy the way I am and don't want to pretend I am muscular, Zeus or whatever LOL, much less look like a 20 year old or elderly. The search continues
  6. I have been searching hard for a reasonably realistic avatar to replace my nooby avatar. Unfortunately when I search the market place all I find for male avatars are muscular avatars. I just want an avatar that is a better approximation of me in RL :-) some liberties taken of course because it can't be the same. I want something like an avatar in its 30's, slender/thin but NOT muscular, no belly, etc. Any suggestions?
  7. The only way I would use a plane in SL would be to make a short film or shoot a scene, otherwise I woud just use the avatar's FLY option. As for your fear and wanting to explore flying without actually getting in a plane, I don't know if you would experiment that fear, probably not. However, I think it is pointless to pretend to do a good flight simulation within SL. If you really want to try some realistic -yet cheap- flight simulation I can highly recommend Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The default planes are ok for starters. If you want to get into a more realistic system simulation you would then need to buy a full aircraft add on (there are for many a/c such as Boeing 737. 747, Airbus, General Aviation, etc.)
  8. I logged out of Second Life (official viewer v3.3) and when I restarted to try to go back I can't login anywhere. Here is what I get when I load: Username: ______________ Password: _________________ Location: ______________________ ______________________ So enter my username and password, for Location I select "My Last Location" but underneath there is another dropbox with a lot of names like Agni, Local (Linden) as well as en empty one. Don't know what to do there, if I select any of those under location - including Local (Linden) - I see in the viewer something indicating it is a TEST GRID. I don't want to go to a test grid. So, If I select the EMPTY entry from that lower dropbox I still get the same error message: All seem to be test grids. However, now on this Nth trial I did the same and selected Agni and finally logged in. I just wonder now... is this a test grid or the real "Second Life" world?
  9. Two problems with it though... 1. When you disable the 3D checkbox then one is no longer able to use the viewer's menu (I am using SL 3.3 viewer). One has to exit the application and restart it to get it working. 2. When active the usual Camera Controls dialog is rendered inoperable big drawback
  10. Thank you very much Jenny for the useful response with that I finally got it working fine! The X (button #1) on this joystick seems to map to the Zoom/Walk functionality. If I press it once (X) I can use the left joystick for moving forward/backward and sideways and if I presss the X button again then those same axis work as Zoom/Pan and Rotate camera left/right. The right joystick is always doing some sort of rotation. This works absolutely fine for me. Normally I use the arrows to move but it can get pretty awkward. The joystick allows me to do some much more smoother control on zoom/pan & rotate. Thanks a million!
  11. I went to the preferences | Movements | Other Devices and enabled the ThrustMaster 3 in 1 device to make movement control more natural (to me). http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=49&Itemid=65&limit=1&limitstart=3 That's the controller I am talking about. When I go into its configuration in the viewer I see that the JoyStick Monitor barely registers anything. I also noticed that it kind of resets itself. What I mean is that if I move the joystick to the left the avatar moves briefly to the rest and stops. If I keep the joystick to the left it is supposed to keep on moving to the left. Same for moving forward. I wanted to configure this joystick and its buttons to do this: 1. Move forward & backward (Y position, left joystick) 2.. Move left & right (X position, left joystick) 3. Rotate left & right (Slider/Z rotation, right joystick) And then configure some of the buttons to do this: a) pop up map b) pop up radar c) pop up nearby chat d) hide all GUI (CTRL+SHIFT+U) e) Control Walk / Run / Fly f) Control View Front, View Rear (don't care much for View Side) I know at least the movement part (forward, backward, left, right, rotation) should be possible. But as in any joystick if you keep the joystick on that position of the axis (rather than its resting position) it should keep on moving along that axis.
  12. I got myself a new outfit based on the original avatar. Obviously that meant new clothes, hair, to get rid of the newbie look. So now I have two outfits in my inventory, the default when I created the account and the new one with a new look. For that I took the original and stripped it naked :O unfortunately it has a tint on the chest that makes it difficult to use just any outfit. But I digress... The problem is my new outfit, say "New Look" lists still ALL the items I detached or took off from the original avatar. If I select it in that outfit listing there is no option to delete it. Obviously it shouldn't delete it from the inventory because it is linked to another outfit, but in the NEW outfit it should not be listed because it is not worn and not wanted. What can I do about that? I need to clean up.
