  1. Had that happen to me before and I find it funny to say the least (more so since the guy who IM'd me had his face photoshopped over a six pack having bodybuilder). I don't think it's an SL only issue, many other gaming communities have this sort of thing too. Just ignore/block and move on and just think how sad it is people actually take the time to do all of that in spite and be the better person. I don't mind if its just ranting but threatening is a different story.

  2. Hello there! Sorry if this is the wrong section of the forum to post this thread. Recently, Aliennware has released its new refreshed 2013 models which I think look wonderful. However, during this time I was also planning on purchasing the 2012 models. Now, originally I was going to get the m14x with a 2 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus™.p However, since the refresh, this option was removed so all that remains is a 1 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus™. Now another thing which I'm not a fan of (but I totally understand) is the price increase but it also has upgraded graphics cards from the 700 series! Now there are 2 available for the system (still a m14x) but I'm currently looking at the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M with 1GB GDDR5. SO please tell me,what are the differences between the
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M with 1GB GDDR5 and 2 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus™? Which provides the better performance?

    Thank you for your time!

  3. I don't believe the SL community as a whole objectifies males OR females but, a vast majority who don't see either of the sexes as equals do. So to answer your question, I don't think so completely. Not everyone sees avatars of either sexes as only pixel bumping material but actually a living being with emotions and characteristics and some don't care on how the avatars in SL look. I do think however that if this was the case, I think perhaps female avatars are mostlylikely to be put in that position for obectification (not saying they are the only ones being in that position since men do too from time to time and thinking other wise would be false/delusional).

For the the question on if it encourages the person to be objectified, all depends on the person. It's true, most of the clothing items or skins/shapes are heavily sexualized to make your avatar look as beautiful as you wish and it's rare to see someone do the opposite but some people don't care and actually want to make their avatars look like their RL selves (or try to) or in some cases, worst. So again (and sorry about this again :matte-motes-mad:) yes and no. The objects may steer the user to purchase these over sexualized items but it's the user's choice wether or not to purchase and use them. Though there aren't as many "ugly" avatars or clothing compared to the more extravigant and sexy apparel, they still do infact exist without a doubt!

  4. I'm mostly looking for furniture specifically but I'm always opened to more suggestions for vriety on houses as well.

This is the type of stuff I'm looking for:

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/LAQ-Decor-Picturesque-Cottage/3456006   (also Im looking for a stove similar or like this but can't seem to find it.)

    https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/KTZ-Village-House-30prims-Bachepam/4323307  (LOVE this house :matte-motes-sing:)

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/17648 (some furni I'm interested in...)

Hopefully you can get an idea for what I'm looking for. Please suggest any stores/merchants and I would really appreciate it if it's mesh and at a decent price but if no oh well just do your best if you can. Thanks!

  5. I usually get the response "Photoshop" or some other expensive art computer software. Which ones can I use to create a logo I thought up of without paying alot of money for the software. I don't mind spending a few bucks (prefereably 20-30 USD)but I'm more open to suggestions to certain downloads from online. I plan on only making simple nice-looking logo's/posters but not MS paint simple.

Also, If you have any tutorials on how to make Logos, posters, signs, etc. for SL, please put them in the replies :matte-motes-smile:

  6. Thanks so much, your reply gave me alot of relief. :matte-motes-whistle:Do you also know anything about Question 3? (also its not displayed in there for some reason, but the GPU has Optimus which I don't know wether or not if that gives any helpful information. I just heard THAT's the reason why the graphics card causes trouble with SL.)

  7. Hello!

First, I would like to state that I have posted a few threads relating to certain alienware laptops which I was interested in during these past several months to get a general idea on how each would perform individually with SL. So basically, I'm sorry if this post is sort of a duplicate but I do have some questions along with these systems and brought back (what I hope to be) helpful information on the specs of each laptop.

Here are the set-ups for each laptop:

    m14x:

    PROCESSOR        3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3230M (3MB Cache, up to 3.2 GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)

    OPERATING SYSTEM       Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit

    MEMORY             8GB (2 X 4GB) Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz

    HARD DRIVE       500GB 7,200 RPM SATA 3Gb/s

    VIDEO CARD       2 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus™

LCD PANEL          14.0" High Def (720p/1366x768) with WLED backlight

WIRELESS CARDS              Killer Wireless-N 1202 a/g/n 2x2 MIMO for Gaming & Video and Bluetooth 4.0

    m17x:

    PROCESSOR        3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)

    OPERATING SYSTEM       Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit

    MEMORY             8GB (2 X 4GB) Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz

    HARD DRIVE       500GB 7,200 RPM SATA 3Gb/s

    VIDEO CARD       2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660M

    WIRELESS CARD                Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 With Bluetooth 4.0

INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE            Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

    For my questions:

    1. The MAJOR difference I see between the m14x and m17x is the fact that the m17x can actually switch and upgrade all of it's coponents like an actual desktop which I think is amazing! **Only uploaded images may be used in postings**://secondlife.i.lithium.com/html/assets/emoticons/mattemotes/big_grin_squint.png" border="0" alt=":matte-motes-big-grin-squint:" title="" /> But unfortunately...That's the only reason for me to actually buy one. I know the laptop has a great amount of power and possesses that convienent feature, but I have to think to myself and think: "Do I need all thatz?" Sure, it's nice to think of planning for future use, but the m14x has EVERYTHING that I need/want and extra on the side! So what's your opinion on this? Stick with a more portable, cheaper, and laptop that already fills my needs or a powerful, upgradeable, but unfortunately more expensive laptop (also, the difference in price is about $300)

    2. If I were to go with an i7 instead of a i5, would it really make THAT much of a difference for SL and my whole laptop use in general? I'm using a laptop with a i5 and I love it already so I'm not sure if the i7 is really needed or not since I actually heard that the change for SL isn't by much.

    3. I heard that the more up-to-date and fancier Graphics cards have a hard time with SL due to the fact that the viewer cannot recognize it. That's VERY unsettling to me. The fact you spend so much money for a Graphics card and the client you run doesn't even work makes me worry. Is there a solution to this, I googled a bit and found a few people with the same problem but some weren't completely resolved. I think I heard someone say to to hit the key function+ f7 and the person never replied stating wether or not the suggestion worked or not so if you please know, tell me.

    4. Should I get 6 or 8 GB of RAM. I believe I read that RAM increases render speed. ATM I have 6 GB and I can say it runs fairly well, but was wondering if more would help alot or just a little.

Again, sorry for the kinda-duplicate thread and on how long it is. Please give me as much helpful info and advice as possible.'

I hope you all have a great day!

    Thank you!

  9. Hello! I was wondering if I can start of a small busines as a hobby by selling custom and premade paintings to friends and customers. I was also wondering if I can make my paintings on actual physical canvas IRL rather than using a computer program/software to make it look nicer and more realistic. How I plan I doing this, im not too sure...but if you do know how PLEASE tell me! Thank you! :matte-motes-smile:

  10. SUP! SUP! :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:

Well first of all, I suggest getting the basics down and as you spend more time here, you'll find yourself learning more and more each day (I'm almost a year old and still find myself confused so don't feel discouraged and try to see it as "you learn something new everyday" sort of thing!) :)

Then I suggest this heavily: GET A JOB. Don't do it ONLY for money, but see it more as a hobby you enjoy instead or else you'll find yourself bored. I work as a waiter/server and enjoy myself everytime I work. Also, if you do get a job, make sure its something you like. I used to be a host but got bored of only greeting and dancing and when I turned to waiting, I immediately loved the feeling of always being on my toes and having more hands on work without having all the skills that other players use to make a living such as scripting and building. You also make a few new friends and get a little money on the side. ;)

Make friends! This one is harder than it sounds if you want GOOD and CLOSE friends. Go into search and type you interests and hobbies and see it pops up! Look at the amount of people who also visit this sim and your sure to at least find someone who shares your hobbie! You don't need a Huge list of friends, just a few close ones and you'll have fun! (Remember: Quality>Quantity)

I wish you have a fun and enjoyable SL!

Feel free to add me if you want to hang out or need help (Though I'm not fully sure on what I'm doing either, I'm always willing to help!)
