    “When you play a console game, you have to follow the directions of the developer. In Second Life, you are the developer.”
    Meet Sergio Delacruz - creator of the inworld multiplayer game “Susan’s Diary” and owner of Delacruz Technologies.
    As a creative free spirit, Sergio discovered that Second Life was a wide-open canvas for exploring and learning the fundamentals of building, scripting, and design. After making his very first pair of shoes inworld, Sergio’s passion for creation led him to craft a first-person shooter game in Second Life.
    Sergio’s enthusiasm is evident in  this episode of the Drax Files. Watch the video below or follow to view it on YouTube.     I am freaking out — because it’s that wonderful time of year that is Hair Fair! You can indulge your inner hair hoarder guilt free — because proceeds go to Wigs for Kids. This weekend also marks Relay Weekend — fun-filled, overnight event that unites Second Life Residents throughout the world to celebrate survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer. They are close to having raised a total of $3,000,000 over the years — so help them reach that goal this year and contribute what you can!
    In addition to these wonderful events, there is some good old fashioned exploring and festivities to enjoy. Drop in to the London Music Festival, wander the dark and mysterious Skull Island, do a little fantasy shopping, or get in some incredible sight seeing. Wherever you end up, please take lots of pics and share them on our Official Second Life Flickr page, because sharing is caring!

    Relay For Life of Second Life
    Relay Weekend will kick off at 10 a.m. (Pacific) on Saturday, July 16 and will feature 24 hours of themed laps, activities and entertainment. The weekend will wrap up with a massive party at 1 p.m. (Pacfic) on Sunday, July 17. Full schedule at relayforlifeofsecondlife.org/get-involved/event-day.

    Welcome to the 11th Annual Hair Fair, where a percentage of all items sold will be donated to Wigs for Kids.     An anachronistic mix of contemporary and modern architecture can be found in Olde London Village. A small village area with iconic London landmarks (Albert Hall, Big Ben,Tower Bridge, and a good old English pub) in a British community. Old London Village is the home to Brit-X: the adult club and magazine Brit-X, as well as a mix of shops and freebies.

    The Chronicles of Lynnea (thelynneachronicles.enjin.com) is a Medieval high fantasy roleplay sim that is focused on community, helping others and giving a home to roleplayers. There are many races, many factions and a very active player base on this beautifully-designed sim for humans, fae, elves, wolves, monsters, and many more!

    L'ExoDe presents the St. Tropez Market, a summer shopping event event held July 17 through August 27. Come explore and shop in this relaxing and harmonious setting for fashionistas.

    Cinema City, built by Ataro Asbrink, is a city dedicated to important aspects of cinema and movie making.

    New Palermo
    New Palermo is a historical roleplay region set in 1933. The Volstead Act... "prohibiting the sale of hard liqour," remains in force. The likelihood of it soon being repealed has only made matters worse as cops and gangsters posture to either make a last big score or get hated criminals behind bars. Corruption is rife.

    Sound Check Night Club has a real world feel not unlike a local dive bar. Friends from around the world and from many cultures come together to meet, hang out and enjoy amazing music while learning and growing together. Sound Check Night Club is the centerpiece to the S.C.     Before we dive into all the great things on deck for this week - I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who participated in the amazing SL13B celebrations last week. We had a blast! Noob parties, Second Life history exhibits, a Music Fest, DJs, dancing and so much more. This community really knows how to throw and enjoy a party!
    Just because the birthday celebration has come to an end, doesn’t mean there is any reason to stop the good times from rolling on! There’s a fresh batch of fun events for you to explore and experience - just a click away!

Second Life opened to the public on June 23, 2003, and whether you’ve been a part of it for more than a decade or just a few days, we had to roll out the good times and hope you will join us at these fun inworld events!     Last summer’s Music Fest was amazing! Once again, we invite you to join us as some of Second Life’s best musicians hit the virtual stage! We held auditions earlier this month, and had a hard time narrowing it down to the performers we have - Second Life is full of amazing musicians, and you may just discover your next favorite music act inworld at any of the live music venues. Thank you to everyone who came to audition, and to those who came to support them!
    This year, we’ve extended the festival to span across three days, featuring an amazing line-up across many genres of music. Each day’s event will start at different times so that everyone can enjoy some live music - no matter what timezone you’re in.

    A Vampire and a Viking Walk into a Bar …
    On Monday, June 20, from 10am - 12pm SLT, join us at the SL13B Cake Stage for a Roleplay Mashup Party! Everyone loves to dress up and Second Life is full of amazing roleplay communities. From historical re-enactment attire to Sci-Fi couture - past, present, and future -  come in your absolute favorite roleplay costume (please note that the region is rated General) and spend a little time dancing and mingling with other costume enthusiasts!     We All Start Somewhere …
    Do you remember the first outfit you put together for your avatar? If you still have some of those oldies but goodies in your inventory, why not dust them off for posterity and show up to the Flashback Party at the SL13B Cake Stage on Wednesday, June 22, from 7 - 9 pm SLT? Wear something old and bring your oldest Second Life friend - the plan is to celebrate the past in all its glory and share some amazing stories from the Second Life days of yore.     In this episode of the Drax Files: World Makers - meet Eboni Khan - owner and creator of Hucci. After losing her job as an IT Manager during the recession, this single mom survived by becoming a Second Life entrepreneur.  
    Eboni now creates virtual clothing and accessories for Second Life avatars, and earns her living from the sales of those items.

    3rd Annual Castle Home & Garden Contest

    Embrace yourself, for something has happened here. Why did that train crash? Was it the erupting volcano? Why does is look so beautiful but yet there is a hint of murder or perhaps suicide along the way. Where did all the people go? Is that really a drunk alien? A carnival? I just don't understand!

    Summer Highline Park of Lapara Towne
    Olde Lapara Towne has an abandoned railroad bridge that runs right through the historic downtown. It has been disused so long, that trees have grown, and picnic baskets have sprouted! Come take a walk on this urban wonder, get a view of the streets below, come see the SLRR mainline from high up, and look at the beautiful parcels owned by the neighbors. Summer only.     Second Life is about to turn 13 this June, and we’re planning a few wonderful ways to help commemorate this incredible event with Residents! Please stay tuned to this blog and our social media pages for all the details as they roll out. We’re kicking off the first of these celebrations today by announcing the auditions for … (drum roll, please) … the return of Second Life Music Fest, sponsored by Linden Lab!
    Last year’s auditions turned out to be an incredible showcase of some of the diverse musical talent in Second Life. It was its own mini-musical-fest - with nearly 50 musicians pulling out all the stops in front of the Second Life music community. This bite-sized showcase led to the final lineup for Music Fest. It’s definitely worth reading this audition day wrap up from musician and Second Life Resident Zak Claxton on his blog from May of last year.
    This year, once again we’re hoping to draw out all you guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers, tambourine shakers and other music makers to come audition for the festival. All genres are welcome! From bands to solo acts, opera to rock and roll - we encourage anyone to sign up for consideration. The Second Life Music Fest is an opportunity to perform at one of the biggest celebrations in Second Life, and it’s a paid gig!
    To sign up for an audition, please complete and submit the submission form no later than May 26, 2016. While we encourage everyone to sign up, it is not a commitment on your part and does not guarantee a spot at the auditions. We will review all submissions and extend audition invitations via email to the designated contact. Each invited act will have a short audition time (5 minutes max) to play and leave an impression on a panel of judges made up of Lindens and Residents. This panel will select acts to be invited to perform at the Second Life Music Fest. Upon completion of a half hour slot at the festival, the designated contact for each act will be eligible for payment (subject to Linden’s terms and conditions).
    All Residents are welcome to participate in the auditions as audience members. Again, I can’t stress enough what a great time it is to see so many musicians perform and support one another! For those who are interested, the auditions location will be shared in a future blog post. Showcase dates and times are as follows:
    Friday, June 3, 2016 12 PM - 2 PM (SLT)
    Saturday. June 4, 2016 from 6 PM - 8 PM (SLT)
