  1. If the link that the other responder is the style you want then you can buy it off the marketplace from the seller that link takes you too. If you're looking for something free or lower cost (sorry i didn't click anyones links so I'm guessing the one the responder posted has a cost) then you can search marketplace yourself. You can refine your search by price and key words as well as narrow it down to the category it would be in. I believe it is in avi accessories.

If your unfamiliar with marketplace you find it on the same webpage you used to get to this forum... secondlife.com

from there you find where it says shopping and a menu drops down for marketplace.. then you go online shopping. All items you buy there (even free ones) get sent to your inventory in world at the bottom section reserved for marketplace direct delivery. drag the folders from there up into your main inventory and there may or may not be some opening to be done.

As you call yourself a noob i will assume you might not know how to open shopping. Find a sandbox or rez area (use your search function or ask a friend or helper in an info center) find the box in your inventory drag it from the inventory to the ground then right click the item and pick open, then copy to inventory. it will make a folder with all contents in it. don't delete any of the contents if your not sure what it is. It might be needed. (remember to pick up or delete the item you put on the ground... both found by right clicking  that item)

  2. your looking for a colour changer or colour picker. There are many variations of these, some more complicated than others. Some allow more than one part of the "shoe" to be coloured separately. IE. the foot one colour the nails another. Some have some preset choices for skin colour while others make the customer guess where on the grid of colour would be for skin even if they don't have any colour mixing background. Some have only the presets as choices which limits the customers chance of matching.

The free part might be tricky. Look up the colour pickers and they might have free ones but will be more basic.

The ones needed for mesh shoes may be different if the full shoe and foot are all one piece but are different texture surfaces. If this is the case then the older style colour picker wont work for that as they work based on a script being put into each prim you want coloured. If the mesh shoe is in pieces like the older sculpt ones then you'll still be able to use the colour changers that need a script in each prim.

  3. Often after trying on many outfits in a row I will have simmilar problems. First empty your trash then, set your chacehs to clear...(in preferences) both the one in network cache and the one in privacy (this one is your texture history). then relog. sometimes it waits for me to start the computer the next day so if it doesnt empty the cache on the relog do a full  computer restart to set it in action.

Then like any day you clear cache.. load your inventroy... force all things to load by typing a in the inventory search... if the total number isn't done yet but is moving slow delete the a and type e.. go through the vowels one at a time until its all loaded. The items you have on will be the last to load.. crazy yes. Loading solves more issues than you can immagine.

I would always try these things first before resorting to things like character tests. BUT if sl as a whole is running slow for everyone, if its showing issues being worked on on the dashboard.. try and wait till that is resolved first. None of these ideas will work right for you if you start doing these things at a time there are major repairs going on.

Also something to look for with this alpha seeming to be the issue.. see if it keeps making copies somewhere where it shouldnt or has extra link set copies in the current outfit folder. If it does then delete all traces of that item as it could be causing a bigger glitch. delete and empty trash get rid of all traces if it is doing what i just described.

  4. It is maybe best to understand one part at a time so it will be less overwhelming.

You may choose first to learn how to make system cloths. if you make a folder for practice in inventory you can then right click that folder (go in mac settings to enable right left clic option) pick new clothing/garment however it is in your version... pick something like a jacket... I say this because it is one of the few clothing that require 2 parts so you will see how it works. Wear the jacket.. In the bottom of inventory is the library folder, in it are some example templates. Use these to practice applying the template to the jacket and changing the sliders... to do this right click the jacket and pick edit.. your avi turns around and shows you in the jacket. The first 2 squares at the top are for the jacket templates... upper and lower... the 3rd is for changing colour... click each square.. put template texture in first 2 and pick  colour for the 3rd.. if you don't have a lower jacket template .. don't worry but now you know it is there... now scroll down that edit box and play with all them sliders to see what they change on the edit window and your jacket. (make sure the templates you use are templates and not an all over pattern by opening the texture first. it should look like a shirt).

You can save and exit the edit box or not save.. this was an exercise for practice only. Now you know what the template looks like and how to apply it in world. In the Library folder again.. find the templates that show the grid of the avi shape. There will be an upper (top) lower (bottom) head (you wont need at first) and a full top/bottom ( you wont need at first).. open the top template grid and the bottom one.. at the bottom there is a arrow drop down that you can save it to your computer.. this is how u get it into gimp. You can also get these templates off market for free but look at what they look like so you know what your looking for. Another place to find them is in the knowledge base under the instructions for making cloths. There are a couple download links set up there that give these templates with layers to put under and over your art work while your working.

When you make your art using the templates save as a tga or a png 512x512pixels or 1024x1024 (but this bigger one is hard for many people to see clear, the smaller is less strain on the computers). Then when you are in SL grid you can upload in me/avitar menu top left for 10L and it goes in your inventory. You can do a temporary upload as well if you want to test first. This will later be deleted so don't get them mixed up. If you click upload image and choose the image then the preview does not have temp box option to check then you need to change some settings. In debugging if you have advanced on you can find temp textures and change its true false state... use debugging at your own risk and if your not sure about it get further instruction. The temp upload lets you have the texture long enough to put it on your system clothing test to see if everything looks good and lines up so you can make more alterations if needed without having to pay. If you attempt to use this as a final upload without paying it will disappear and show as grey or naked as the texture exists for limited time.

Once you master this you might want to look into something like the ivory tower of primitives to get some notecards in your language on prim building and editing. Get to know the building basics and texturing then when you have something made you can attach it to your avi and practice moving the prims around and attaching to other points.

As for learning sculpt and having to get the older version of blender and installing the special scripts developed long ago for an obsolete version of the blender program....skip it... Go straight to using blender for mesh, this way you don't need any confusing script instals or have to learn an older version. If you already know how to use blender for mesh etc then go ahead and learn the rigging for the clothing and you'll be a hot commodity. Clothing needs to be rigged for mesh so it moves with the avi. Smaller items like accessories shoes etc dont need this so much. If you aren't ready to learn rigging then learn how to make the mesh in the smaller things first.

To upload mesh into sl you go to the same place you upload the texture. if you haven't uploaded mesh before it will direct you to a small test about licenses copy right info etc. When you pass this you get permission to upload mesh. Mesh itself is a whole topic and by the time your ready for that you'll have lots of builder people that can tell you what tutorials are good and you'll know what some of that lingo means that is confusing now.

  5. As a designer we face some issues working with mesh and do what we can within the Sl capabilities to make it work. We have all heard about the fabled deformers yet to come that should make it so one size fits all. The programing should have been done for this in the first place, but it wasn't. As a result the designers have to yet again find a way around the issues by  giving the band-aid treatment. Small fixes here and there to make it pass until things are change to be the way they should be.

Most, not all, designers use build kits for their mesh products. There are some that are able to create their own mesh, the rest of us have to be at their mercy to sell their builders tools. For us that don't make our own, we are working with product made by someone else and if there are any imperfections we do what we can to band-aid that.

Often I have gotten clothing from hunts etc where the alphas show a lot outside the garment and when i find the build kit and test a demo it does the same thing. I try for my items to fix this as much as i can before selling it and if the demo shows too many issues I don't buy it. Often i don't bother with the demo of items if i have had many of that style from stores before that had lots of issues that I'm not willing to put up with myself so i know my customer wont ether. On the flip side, items that i like how they work i will consider when I'm looking at build kits. Not all mesh builder kits have demos available and those are a gamble. **any mesh builder supplier without demos please make them available**

As for the clothing layer you suggest... at first i thought you meant things like having a mesh pant with a system top.. I do see that often. After reading farther I understand you mean to hide anything peeking out. If I'm going to do that i think i might as well stick to flexi skirts etc since it would be about the same thing having the shorts under the old style skirts. It would also be cheaper for me since i wouldn't have to buy mesh kits.

I don't make a lot of mesh styles yet. It is mostly due to all the issues with sizing, alphas, and peekage. I don't wear a lot of it myself. The top sections rarely fit or come close to it. I am also reluctant to get heavily into selling mesh that I know has these issues as I don't want to have to deal with customer complaints about something i have no control of.

I am waiting with baited breath with the rest of the designers and customers for the day that mesh is put the way it should always have been. One size fits all like the system cloths and no need for alphas.

  6. I remember a tutorial that covered this topic when i started learning making cloths. I believe it was ether in the library texture folders or it was free on marketplace.

Basically it said to try to place logos on areas that don't get stretched as much like high on the back and to keep the logos small.

Also if you look at the system template bases in the library folders it shows the grid of the avi mesh. When you place your logo you can c what sections of the grid on the template are out of shape and stretched. If your gifted with the art program you use you can try and distort the logo to counter the stretching once it is on the body. So the part of the logo that gets stretched the most you will distort it to be smaller on the template and leave the non stretched part to normal scale. Once you apply this to the system clothing the part you shrunk proportionally to how much it stretched in your test will be stretched to the desired size.

  7. This style shown appears to be mesh. The mesh itself helps in some of the shading of the folds etc. When you buy a mesh builders kit for an outfit you usually get a template to follow for knowing where to place the texture you want to show up on each part of the mesh. There is usually also a shadow map that helps with the 3-d look of the shading and wrinkles. As for the fabric look itself... this is where you would open your art program like photoshop or gimp and be an artist. Comments above have suggested some kits that have wrinkle brushes. There are also kits available for shading of things like leathers or silks. This is all if you are planning to make the item yourself.

If you are hoping to get something already done and ready for yourself to sell be prepared to pay big for it. The only way you will get that designers exact style is if that designer sells their items as builders kits. If they did they would have offered to sell it to you when you asked.

So your options are to pay lots and look hard for the kit you want showing the style you posted or, to take the advice of the other repliers. Get some fold and shade brushes and practice in your art programs until you get the desired effects. If your new to art you'll get best results by looking at the picture you want to create while working on it. You will see where the highlights and shadows are. Start your art using white black and shades of grey so you can later filter in any colour you choose. You can use a base texture of silk to get the weave part of the look you wish but the shading and highlights will all be up to you to do. (tip.. if your using a base texture for the weave... set the layers you put the shading, highlights and wrinkles to ether grain extract or grain merge.. test what works better..this will be ontop of the fabric part... that way the highlights etc still has the fabric grain) It will take time and work.. there is no cheap or easy/fast way to get what you want here.

  8. I haven't made the shimmering clothing myself but have seen it and had some items that had this feature. From what I understand the texture on that layer of clothing object is animated.

Yes the texture itself is animated!

There are some builders related stores that specialize in animated textures to give you an idea what its about.

Basically the texture is made divided into a number of sections and it works along with a script that calls for the specific number of sections. The script then shows one section of the texture at a time in a succession loop. Each section is made to be a small bit different than the section before it. A bit like how they made original cartoon reals. Both are placed inside the prim to case the shimmering look.

One issue I have had with using animated textures for non related projects is that it doesn't allow you to have different things going on on different surfaces. All surfaces end up the same.

  9. regarding the comment about wining about the ads:

its not the ads themselves i have the problem with its the fact that some of them are not functioning the right way and are setting off security alerts that keep popping up all the time the ad is on a page. sure i could do some of the suggestions from the tool menus (once i find them as my browser isn't the same as the one given in the instructions) but that only Band-Aids the problem. The faulty ad needs to be fixed so its not causing the problem. Once its fixed the ads don't matter to me.

  10. YES!!!! i'm getting the pop ups too. In its self its big time annoying to have to get rid of the pop up warning on every page i click. What is worse is that the pop up is a warning from the security system saying that the adds certificates are invalid and that they may be taking personal information from me.

This warning is freaking me out and i've been running all kinds of security checks on my computer. The machine has quarantined a couple things after i clicked the warning away but the boxes keep coming back up if i click yes no or maybe so.

For those of you wanting to make income on marketplace or for the labs wanting to sell lindens.. on the days i'm getting these warnings i'm refusing to log into the account due to this warning message. That means no purchases for me be it product or linden dollars.

If the ads that are being used are showing up as having invalid credentials its going to call into question a lot of other security and safety issues making people reluctant to use the pages. If the labs choose to have ads on the side thats their choice but they need to be making sure those ads aren't possible malwear ruining their customers computers or at least making their customers think it could. The people using these pages need to feel secure if they are going to keep coming back.

For any of the lab people that might see this and wish to fix the problem... its not all the ads setting off the alerts.. since i have started watching it more it is the ads that say on them something about for males only in the text part so it may be just some of the ads that need to be fixed for their certificates. again so you know what your dealing with if your fixing this.. the warning sites that the ads certificate is invalid and may be taking personal info from the computer.

  11. When your not sure about avi shape proportions you can always look up google stuff on these things. body proportions is often covered in human drawing books/lessons/tutorial type things.

As for eyes proportions the main part is that one eye fits between the 2 (area between eyes = 1 eye). when you get into more complicated layouts it goes as following: take a line from the outer corner of lips and cross the center of tip of nose to find the inner corner of eye. take line from outer corner of lip to outer edit of nose bump (side) on opposite side of face to find outer corner of eye. take line up from outer corner of lips to find center of pupil.

these are rule of thumb proportions that can have a little variation in them or all people would look the same, but they are a good starting point when your not sure.

the proportions and layout of your photo fit these peramiters so it would be personal preference from there.

  12. Its possible that the items of your inventory aren't loaded yet. Often this gives the cloud or grey result when you try and wear the item. In the top search bar of your inventory type the letter a and watch the total invantory number rise, if it slows down but isn't done yet, delete the a and type letter e.. continue this with the vowels to force the server to find all of your items. If this in fact is the problem your having, by the time your loaded you'll see the avi as it should be. if it's not the problem you've checked off one of the options you now know its not.

  13. Did you change viewers by any chance? I had an issue like that when i went back to the sl official viewer from using the firestorm ones for a long time. There were a few build/edit related things that were different between the viewers that drove me back to firestorm.

  14. Hush offers a pack of appliers for all their skin shades at a cost (450 i believe it was)....but they also have a full skin shade range group gift every month or 2 that could ballance out your cost if needed. The gift can also work as a demo so you can tell if you like the overal styles tones etc.

the box of appliers is meant to work for any of the skins they have as the base skintones are consistant throughout their styles.

  15. This is a common problem at any sales event. firstly the sims are full ... in this case all of them side by side putting a lot of strain not only on the servers but your computer as well.

As for people that dress to look good at these things.. you dont have to be hairless in your panties to have a low rez weight and scripts. Unfortunatly lots of people dont know how to reduce these levels. Often the hairs shoes and accessories are high in scripts due to the sizers or colour pickers. the huds dont need to stay on screen once the colour is picked and most updated sizer scripts have a delete button in the menues. (always make a copy first).

the rez weights of clothing without prims can be the same if we are in a bikini or jeans and a tank top. the only differences in the painted on cloths may be in the rezolution and texture size the cloths were made from.

Any avi can right click themselves and look for the script info choice in the menues that come up. if you use the pie menu youll need to hit more once or twice to get to it. for an event like the hair show you deffo dont need to be up in the hundreds for this. treat it like the exploration and rp sims where they request a max of 50 scripts and preferably less. my every day script count is usly under 20 unless i have a new item on that i have forgotten to delete the sizers, so it is possible to have a full avi look and still be low script and lag.

as for the character test. if you have ever turned on the rez weight numbers that float over the avis heads and compare the numbers between the default avis the library avis and some of the nicely designed avis that residents make themselves youll find the default and library avis to have a very high rezweight. the labs spared no expense in rezcosts when designing the starter stuff.

so when you see an avi that looks great they may well have a lower rez and script weight than a default avi in its panties. chances are they are less since if their avi looks great they may know one or two of the things i have listed above. good luck at the fair and hopefully some shoppers will try some of these tips.

  16. go old school. like the old school shoes before alpha layers that is. if you know how to build basics you make a prim to fit the space and make that prim alpha. they were called invsi prims on the old school products. you would then wear that prim on the same attachment point as the arm and would have to add the arm after so you have both items attached at the same spot.

if that all works out well and the arm is modifiable and your more than a beginner with build and edit stuff you can add the new prim to the link set.....***make a copy first*****do not start editing the bought product before making a copy***

with them linked you wouldn't have to worry about having a viewer that allows more than one object attached to a point.

if you have some of the old school made shoes you can wear one with its invisy prim and get a better idea of what i am suggesting. if not you may be able to still get some on marketplace to help you get the settings etc right on the invisy prim.

  17. some adult areas send a notecard of rules upon landing or have rule signs near a forced landing point. its a good idea to make sure you read those if your avi may be questionable to make sure u know that locations stand on what your avi is. this goes for taller avis as well as some places my not allow non humans where others may not allow human. some places are gender specific and some require the avi to be a minimum sl age or in your case a minimum avi height.

if the location doesn't have any rules easily found then they are sticking with whatever the labs say. places that have rules available will specify what they expect. ether way if you know the rules of the location and someone confronts you then you will have the  power to say they are wrong and to be able to state what the locations stand on the issue is.

in this case knowledge is power and should go a long way to shut up the busy bodies.

  18. you may have the anti spam activated in preferences. preferences is under your first drop down menu top left. the box for anti spam on my viewer is under the firestorm button sub tab protection. i have the box for anti spam checked and under it you can choose how many lines of text you want flagged for spam. some of the longer gestures often set off the anti spam at the lowest default setting. you can change that number to be larger if you choose. something else that sets the protection off is when you load something with scripts that gives you a list of info when it loads. so if you just put on a hud or logged in and had the hud already on.

if your on another viewer than what im on then youll have to look through the preferences box for catagories that might fit for protection or security maybe but it will for sure be in the preference box somewhere.

  19. the limit posted may not be enforced but if it is, the people that have more alts than they can count arent using their real information for the accounts. those people are usly the ones that have trouble getting the age verifications or at least they did before they changed that process to require less info.

  20. when i switched over it went fine. it was a few months later i had issues with the merchant outbox and it took a good long time to get resolved. since then i hadnt had problems in general but i did have to delete a large group of items once and had the problem your facing. deleting one item at a time took a long time before the page was ready for the next and if i tried to delete all of them at once i froze up and crashed. i found doing them in blocks of maybe 10 items worked for me. it took longer to get ready for the next block of 10 time wise after i clicked delete. so if the server took 1 min to process one item it was taking 10 to process 10 of them.

that said... it is kind of normal for data on the web in programs like this to complete the task before you get to start the next. even in some industry programs for rl companies that use data programs like this it is slow and one save at a time :matte-motes-dont-cry: its a pain yes but its not just sl.

  21. sometiems the images wont load right if you badly need an update of your flashplayer. maybe check and see if there are any updates of your chosen flashplayer available. once thats installed you can see what happens. if it doesnt fix the issue you havnt lost anything and have figured out one thing the problem is not.

  22. most of the furry and fantasy avis ive seen so far have been the full avi in one piece so the look would always be the same instead of being able to say change up what kind of digi paws you wear or get a diff style of ears. iv'e been on the look out for mesh builders kits for the furry parts such as the head and at best i have found some digi boots that work like regular boots and some tail kits. if you find a place that is selling mesh heads for diff critters id like to know. thanks

  23. often when people first start sl their defualt graphics end up set higher than they should be making you lag and crash tons. in you first drop down menu top left (it will say me or avitar) find preferences and click the button on the side that says graphics. if the slider is above low it could be your problem. go ahead and slide it to low and click ok or apply at the bottom of the box to save it.

another problem i had when i was new was running too many other apps at the same time as sl. it wasnt when i was editing that i crashed like i had thought. it was when someone logged in or out of one of my IM apps i had open in the background. my computer barely met the minimum requirements to run the sl app and someone loggging in or out pushed me over the opperating systems edge... ie crashland.

  24. in the firestorm version 4.4.0.33blablabla first you can activate your advanced manu in preferences (under avitar menu). when you get the avatar drop down menu pick preferences and pick the advanced button. Now you will put a check in the box that allows the advanced menu. it will then show up on the top of your viewer next to help. the rlv enable is close to the bottom of that menu.

i assume it is the same for some of the other more recent versions of firestorm if you dont have the exact one i listed.
