  1. Having same issues running latest LL viewer on openSUSE 12.1 32 bit. I do not have any of these issues running the LL Windows viewer on the same hardware with the same internet connection (dual boot).
  2. That is absolutely incredible performance Deej!!! I have a Nvidia GTX 285 with 1 GB VRAM and if I enable shadows (ultra), I only get about 15 fps. However, I noticed that the original specifications for my video card indicate that it supports OpenGL 2.1. So maybe the primary reason I'm not getting better performance with shadows is because my card is simply outdated at this point. However, my viewer indicates my OpenGL version with my driver is 3.3.0. Not sure exactly how that works. My specs as reported by Viewer 3.03 are below. CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 810 Processor (2611.88 MHz) Memory: 8191 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 285/PCI/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0012.8026 OpenGL Version: 3.3.0
  3. This link provides an informative relative performance chart at the bottom of the page that will give you an idea of how the various Nvidia cards perform in relation to one another. http://www.geforce.com/Hardware/GPUs/geforce-gtx-580/performance
  4. So, it isn't using the video card for the video? Do you have your monitor hooked up to onboard video? Not sure what you mean by running through the gpu.
  5. The basics regarding the Nvidia naming convention is as follows. The number series (200, 300,400,500) is the generation of the card, with the newest being the 500 series. Within each series, the last 2 digits denote the relative performance of the card within that series. So, a 570 is a more powerful, higher model than a 560. So, not all 500 series cards are better than 400 series cards, or even 300 or 200 series cards. For example, I have a GTX 285 which was near top of the Nvidia line a few years ago. According to the performance rankings I have seen, it performs about as well as new GTX 560. However, it still beats the crap out of a GT 520, which is a current generation, low-end card. By the way, about 5 years ago, Nvidea changed their numbering system, going from 4-digit numbers to 3-digit numbers; from 9800 to 100. So a FX 5800 (4-digit number) is a very old model card, while a GT 545 (3-digit number) is a current generation model.
  6. Which NVIDIA 500 Series graphics cards will run SL at 1920x1200 in ultra mode at 30 fps or greater? My LCD monitor runs at 60 Hz and I have it set for 32-bit color. I run Windows 7 Home Premium on an AMD Phenom II quad core with 8 GBs RAM. I have a DSL connection that provides a download speed of about 1 Mbps. I currently have a NVIDIA GTX 285 with a GB of memory on it. I can run the game on high graphics using SL Viewer 3.03, but if I attempt ultra graphics, my frame rate goes down to about 12 fps. I don't want to upgrade my video card, if the primary limiter of how well game performs for me is my internet connection, rather than my video hardware. 7. I run the 64 bit version of openSUSE 11.4 with GNOME and have the same issue. Everything works accept steaming music. I have all of the 32 bit Gstreamer libraries installed. The only viewer that allows me to hear streaming music is the 64 bit version of Imprudence, which is a true 64 bit viewer (currently the only 64 bit viewer available). Hey Linden Research, if you are listening, please develop 64-bit versions of your viewers, starting with the Linux viewer! It is time!
