Are you interested in how virtual worlds can and do help support people with disabilities? If so join in the conversation and attend *Virtual Ability's Mental Health Symposium. This year’s conference will be held this Saturday, inworld at the Sojourner Auditorium on Virtual Ability Island. Presenters will focus on discussion around research, practice, and insight that reflect on the theme "Quality of Life." The Symposium is Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 7 am - 5 pm PDT. The conference schedule and more information about Virtual Ability and this event, is available on their website. *Virtual Ability, Inc. is a non-profit corporation based in Colorado, USA. Their mission is to enable people with a wide range of disabilities by providing a supporting environment for them to enter and thrive in online virtual worlds.

The University of San Martin de Porres from Perú is offering a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) called "Introduction to Second Life for Educators". This course is designed to help spanish-speaking educators in the use of Second Life as a starting point in their interaction with emerging and innovative environments that can be used for education. This initiative meets the needs of students who are experiencing this new way of learning and studying in virtual environments, as well as their tendency for increased use of technology. If you or someone you know, might benefit from a course like this, you can watch an introductory video (in Spanish), review course details, and register at their website. The museum highlights both the military and civil technology used from the late republic to the height of the Roman Empire in 117 AD. You can do everything from race marshmallow peeps, drive carrot cars, dance the bunny hop, ride egg boats, hunt for Easter eggs, enjoy hot air balloon tours and even take pictures with the Easter Bunny. There is also an egg decorating contest with L$6,500 in prize money. Lots of fun activities and shopping await you at Easter Town 2014. Many of you may have read about the Heartbleed SSL vulnerability that is still affecting many Internet sites. You do not need to take extra action to secure your Second Life password if you have not used the same password on other websites. Your Second Life password was not visible via Heartbleed server memory exposure. No secondlife.com site that accepts passwords had the vulnerable SSL heartbeat feature enabled. If you used the same password for Second Life that you used on a third-party site, and if that third-party site may have been affected by the vulnerability, you should change your password. Supporting sites such as Second Life profiles are hosted on cloud hosting services. Some of these sites were previously vulnerable to Heartbleed, which may have exposed one of these servers' certificates. As an extra precaution, we are in the process of replacing our SSL certificates across the board. This change will be fully automatic in standard web browsers. We’re happy to report that the Photo Upload feature of SL Share is once again working (as we previously blogged, that portion of the service had been temporarily disabled by Facebook). Thank you again for your patience as we worked to resolve this issue. The restored feature no longer automatically includes SLURLs when you share a picture to Facebook, but it’s still possible to let your Facebook friends know where you are inworld by using the Check-In function in SL Share. As you may have seen, we’re expanding the functionality of SL Share to include not only Facebook, but also Flickr, and Twitter. You can read about that work here and try it out with the project Viewer now available here.

Since launching the beta of SL Go about a month ago, OnLive reports they’ve seen a very positive response to the Second Life® Viewer for Android™ that allows users to access Second Life over wifi or 4G LTE on tablets and laptops. Today, OnLive has updated the SL Go beta with new pricing: Monthly unlimited-use subscription for $9.95 (USD) / £6.95 (GBP). No contract and no commitment. Reduced hourly rate: $1 / £0.70 per hour. The previously available offer of a 20-minute free trial still stands. Additionally, OnLive is expanding the regions where SLGo is available. The service is now supported in 36 countries - you can find the full list, along with more details over on OnLive’s blog here.
