  1. We have had inquiries on how the community can contribute helpful new user tutorials,  for use in the official Second Life Viewer or on the website and social media sites.  We have an option for those who are interested!  Create a 2-3 minute video on a new user tip or choose one of the ideas below.

Submit your YouTube video link to create@secondlife.com.   It might be chosen!

    Ideas:

    • How to shop inworld
    • How to customize your avatar
    • How to create or build (basics)
    • How to find things to do  (Destination Guide / Search)

    Additional information:

    • No copyrighted material or music is allowed
    • Include your name so we may acknowledge you for your contribution
    • Submit with a YouTube video link
    • English only please at this time

  2. [uPDATE: May 17, 2012]

We continue to work outstanding Marketplace issues.

Performance continues to improve on the Marketplace web site. With our deploy last week, we fixed a couple of JIRAs and order processing sped up, which led to some orders getting stuck in the Queued state (which means no money has been taken from the customer nor have any items been delivered). Orders got stuck because other portions of the system struggled to keep up. Stuck orders were Aborted, and a fix was made to decrease the number of orders getting stuck in the Queued state going forward while we work on a longer term fix.

Here is the status of the remaining issues:

    • (WEB-4587) Listings show up with images from other Merchants listings
Current status: we have identified the problem and are working on testing the fix.
    • (WEB-4696) Deleted listings appearing in search results for consumers and in Merchant Admin.
Current status: we continue to work on this issue, and have decreased the incidence of these occurrences.
    • (WEB-4441) Orders stuck in Being Delivered
Current status:  we are actively working on this issue and will focus our fixes on Direct Delivery purchases.

    • (WEB-4567) Bulk delete failing.
Current status: the work-around on this is to delete each item. We continue to work on resolving this.

One other question that has come up frequently as we get close to June 1, is around Direct Delivery migration dates. We will not be requiring Merchants to migrate to Direct Delivery before August 1, 2012, and will give at least a 4 week notice for any shutdown dates.

  3. [uPDATE: April 26, 2012] We are continuing to work on outstanding Marketplace issues.

The most significant issue that has been addressed over the past week was slowness on the Marketplace website, which occurred intermittently between April 18 and April 21. Page loads should be much faster now.

Here is the status on additional JIRAs:
    • (WEB-4587/WEB-4601) Search results, best-selling lists and related items showing up on other merchants items or images.
      Current status:
other merchants’ listings should not be appearing in store search results, best-selling lists, related items, etc. Other merchants’ images may still appear on your listings, but this is less likely to occur as we work on a solution.
    • (WEB-4676) ANS for SLM does not populate the Location field with internal ID.
      Current status:
this is in progress and will be deployed soon.
    • (WEB-4696) Deleted listings appearing in search results for consumers and in Merchant Admin.
      Current status:
we are working on resolving this issue.
    • (WEB-4441) Orders stuck in Being Delivered
Current status:  the orders stuck here due to unicode problems was addressed, and we continue to investigate remaining orders stuck in this state.

    • (WEB-4567) Bulk delete failing.
      Current status:
the work-around on this is to delete each item. We continue to work on resolving this.
    • (WEB-4574) Direct Delivery products are re-delivered to purchaser instead of recipient.
      Current status:
we are working on resolving this.
We continue to work on the other Marketplace JIRAs and will provide additional updates as soon as possible.
  4. Hello,

We wanted to let you know about some exciting updates to the pathfinding project.

The Pathfinding Viewer Tools are now in beta, giving Residents the ability to view and modify the navigation mesh for a region and to generate nav-meshes for Resident-created buildings and surfaces.

Residents can now also create exclusion volumes and set up different speed modifiers for each of four character types in each pathfinding enabled surface.

In addition to the public testing areas for pathfinding on the Aditi grid, Linden Lab is conducting an opt-in program for interested region owners to have their regions on the main grid enabled for pathfinding prior to launch. Email pathfinding-beta@lindenlab.com with your region name if you would like to be considered for the beta.

Check out the following links for more info :

  6. Having seen the feedback in this thread and elsewhere about the plan for SL9B celebrations, we wanted to elaborate a bit about why we’ve decided to focus on promoting numerous events hosted by the community this year, rather than hosting a centralized celebration as we have in the past.

We want to give the Second Life community more control over the celebrations and to put the focus of the events where we think it really belongs: on you – the landowners, the creators, the artists, the DJs, the musicians, the venue managers – the people who make Second Life great every day.

Many of you have invested both time and money in your own venues inworld, and we think the SL9B celebrations are a good opportunity to introduce new people to the work you’ve put into cultivating a community presence inworld (rather than potentially drawing traffic away from your region to a central event). A collection of decentralized events and exhibits means that not only can many more creators participate, but it should also help us to avoid some of the performance challenges that have lessened the fun for attendees at past SL Birthdays.

As many of you have pointed out, there are pros and cons to the approach we’re taking this year, just as there have been in the past, but we hope you’ll choose to participate and enjoy the celebrations.

Today we updated Marketplace to address two of the top three outstanding issues:
    • WEB-4580: purchases are now delivered to recipients with the inventory name (which does not allow unicode characters). This will prevent future orders from getting stuck in the Being Delivered state due to this issue. In addition, all orders affected by this problem have been pushed through.
    • WEB-4587:  updates have been made to support updating store search results, which we will process over the next week; we continue to work on the issue related to mismatched data on listings. We do know that this issue has existed since September 2010 (during the migration from Xstreet to the Second Life Marketplace).

We continue to work on the other Marketplace JIRAs and will provide additional updates as soon as possible.
  9. Protecting Second Life users’ privacy and security is a priority, and today, we’ve made some changes to our Policy on Third Party Viewers to strengthen those protections for all users (Section 2.a.iii, 2.i, 2.j).

We’ve also updated the policy to be clearer about the sorts of innovations that developers should work on for their particular Viewers (Section 2.k), and which they should work on in partnership with Linden Lab for all of Second Life. This is so that we can avoid the problems that result when a Viewer changes the way elements of Second Life are defined or how they behave, in such a way that users on other Viewers don't experience the same virtual reality.

Here are the new sections of the policy:

2.a.iii : You must not provide any feature that circumvents any privacy protection option made available through a Linden Lab viewer or any Second Life service.

2.i : You must not display any information regarding the computer system, software, or network connection of any other Second Life user.

2.j : You must not include any information regarding the computer system, software, or network connection of the user in any messages sent to other viewers, except when explicitly elected by the user of your viewer.

2.k : You must not provide any feature that alters the shared experience of the virtual world in any way not provided by or accessible to users of the latest released Linden Lab viewer.

We encourage Third Party Developers to continue innovating with unique user interfaces, niche features, and ways of interacting with the virtual world, and we look forward to working in partnership with developers on ideas they have for new or improved shared experiences for all of Second Life. We want to incorporate more innovative new features into Second Life to improve the experience for all users, and we encourage TPV developers to submit proposals through our standard process.

  10. Hello,

Yesterday, we posted a summary of the downtime we experienced on Valentine’s Day. We indicated in that post that there were still some orders that needed to be pushed through to completion. We want to assure merchants who have orders in the “Being Delivered” state that we are currently pushing those orders to completion and reconciling the payout to the merchants. We anticipate that orders in this state should be processed by end of day Thursday. Once these are complete, we will post another update here, along with details on how to address any orders that are still stuck.

    Best regards,

    The Commerce Team

  11. Hello Francine,

There have been some changes and you can read about them at the forum post here.

Additionally, you can always navigate to the website and make changes that way instead of following a link in an email if you're ever uncertain.

    Thank you and best regards!
