That is the text book answer from LL. What they did not tell you was the Linux distro and what version of the distro or the version of the viewer. I compile many viewers and even a smart blank answer from OZ the developer of the viewer. you will find even when I install the exact debian Linux they use and the exact gst-plugins to run it like that wonderful text book answer you will find html 5 and flash on the prim is not working. For me. And of course I was blown off by the devel team no biggy I patched it my self for my 32 bit and 64 bit builds. and the truth is in my builds if you go by the text book answer it will work in most Linux distro's the only viewer right now out of the box that works for the 4.7.1 webkit on all the grids is Singularity. The Singularity team was the first to port all of the v3 code to the V1 Interface and actually build open jpeg in to the build and also pulls QT in to the build to create a great webket to view flash and html 5 on a prim. I like the Singularity viewer but not big on the interface. That said it is the most bleeding edge viewer out there. the first to build in the 4.7 gcc

ok for you Slackware 14.1 users and some othe very up to date linux users. the viewer may not start, because of this missing. libpangox-1.0.so.0 , . libpangox-1.0.so. Has been depriciated and now has been taken out of the system. I my self created a symlink libpangox-1.0.so.0 ------> libpangoxft-1.0.so.0.3000.1 this got the viewer going . That is not a fix. same problem with all the viewers. there is a very old compatable code build compat-libpangox-1.0.so.0 that really isnt a fix either but it will get it going. I am going to have to change the old pango prebuilt libraries and headers. Or LL going to have to Self path it in the build. we will wait and see.

I know this is a old post but the problem still there. Since LL is trying to make sure the two big payers have theirs work Windoze and Mac> they changed the libqtwebket and the the code on quicktime and began using . I my self rolled it back and build my own qtwebkit to compile against so I can watch videos. I have done the same for Firestorm that hog of a viewer nice but huge. The only viewer that stuck to keeping things so it works in Linux is Singularity. Not sure about coolVL. As long as the code is open source I guess us linux users can change the media plugins to work. Linux the SL viewer is the best and most secure there is. Well guess what go to the land and see they only can stay on the boundry lines. It don't take much looking at it to see the parcel line encroachment has been pretty well exploited with the latest simulator. I have not said much bad about SL this is a serious issue and you know you all can look the other way or look at the source of the problem. So as with me some one IM me a neighbor said some one was atacking the land with replicating prims I said thanks look at the land manager only our prims are there think nothing of it. then you go down to the land and you see that the prims are on the parcel lines and are replicating. If you do not see this as a serious problem such as waisted resource On LL and the severe use of bandth width I am sorry it is a real issue when people open there mouth in a trusted community LL has a problem with a staff leak and this is what they must call an acceptable bug. if you all would be so kind as to work on this problem from the source and admit their is staff issues as all companies have. Unfortunately I feel sorry for LL in this because they have created a system that lets people atack there own market.. How many were happy in the UK when those hunderds of jobs where taken away. the day you think a company has only angels working for them is the day you lose. Wow your so kind yes I have but never ever waited this long for support to fix this problem. I have spent many years on the viewer before 2007 and was not till 2011 did I retire and actually come in to the world as an avatar. If you understood how easy it was to fix this you would be ashamed of the support system. Or are you one of the people that think other viewers are better and moor secure than the one developed by LL. the grid is closed this script takes in the fact that the latest server simulator has a problem with permissions on boundary lines. Only very few people on staff know this OK. Get with it.

This has been ARd numerous times by me over the last 24 hours as well as by a number of other people, yet this is still there. Very simple so don't make it complicated OK. SL is a big computer OK and you upload to lindens computer you have now given them a copy. If you upload to my computer I know have a copy since it is on my computer I am liable for it since I am liable it becomes mine. The catch 22 was done in congress back in 1993 when congress passed a bill saying they are not liable for illegal stuff uploaded but they do have to report it if found. That said it is on there hard drive they own it you may bring it in and take it out but it will always be owned by LL. as far as the DAE file it is actuall a format that is read by a upload program the DAE never get stored it is converted .

Seems for the last two days some one with the knowledge of the closed grid code is exploiting the parcel edges allowing a griever to stay on his attack and fill your sim with thousands of prims of porn and other vulgar things this is mainland . http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bailywick/194/53/46 only a LL staff have this knowledge of the grid so it is either a LL staff member alt or a LL staff member that sold out OZ code.

Opens as a text file well seems your system reads that as a script but opens it with an editor. Open a terminal make sure your in the directory and type yes the dot then a slash ./secondlife then press enter after that if the viewer does not start there will be an error read out. good thing to know is the viewer is developed in a debian Linux. But 90 percent of support is for windows. Don't feel bad you should see the windows problems. Things to remember when upgrading. If the distro you use is upgrading the kernel please remember many graphics card do not support 3d acceleration on a generic Linux driver. And since we have no clue of a staff members Alts how does LL purpose to handle this in world and out of world. On my Stand alone grid I use for testing viewers it is a simple click of a mouse. Seem it is a disgruntle staff member is harassing Mainland. Only staff have the power to rezz on locked down land. Yes for the last 2 days this staff member has been running a script that fills several parcels with porn from kiddy porn to fox news adds. The objects fill several parcels of many old time users. First complaint was took all day all night to upgrade, this is common problem with the default ubutu repose use kernel org or mtds. or my local campus repo, the other problem was third party software that means nonfree. or it would be in the repo for default install. The main problem is getting enough data from the OP and the limited knowledge I am used to this after several thousand answers in Linux questions. My answer to a new person actually sends them to learn the repo and look for third party stuff . You must remember that know one reads if they don't have to. Those answers where to get them to ask me the questions I know will help them keep and up to date machine and fix the third party issue with graphics.

The flash on a prim has been broken for over a year now on on the Linux build that's why I patched it and build my own viewer. That sad down load the viewer what ever one you get. unTar the package and it will create a folder. Open the folder click secondlife to install locally open a terminal type ./install.sh or sh install.sh and press enter three time. To do it system wide assume root or sudo and do the same commands

How come we have staff member rezzing and running scripts with permission set so they can't I been in here a few years. And wonder why linden lab staff members are doing this because permissions will not allow it on the grid. This is a closed grid so it must be staff members doing this. We are tired of this on balywick of this staff member exploiting the grid as a griever.

the upgrade you spoke of is for your propretary drivers right and third party. not to put down certain debian spin offs you will find two ways of keeping your system up. first it took that long time to upgrade because you may have never configured your repositories and they are set to default and that is sooooooooooooooooooooo slowwwwwwwwwww. second if you build your own graphics driver with dkms ubuntu set up it will see the new kernel and build it for you on every upgrade. I stick with Slackware it is simple and very easy as slackpkg update slackpkg upgrade-all and your all done. contact me inworld if youlike or here I will walk you through it ok. there are many systems. so make sure you have the version of yout linux system ok ty hang in there
