Any reason to keep these around?

Let's be generous: camping there will earn you L$2 per 10 minutes, L$10 per hour, or 4 $ cents per hour. The average power an average gaming computer uses is about 400 Watt. That's 0.4 kWh per hour. At an (average American) electricity price of 15 cents per Watt-hour, that will cost you 6 cents per hour.

You go camping in SL, you lose 2 cents per hour.

  2. I'm seeing scripts revert to older versions upon transfer from one avatar to another. On the first occasions I wondered if it was just me making mistakes or remembering things wrong. But now I've seen it happen under circumstances that can not be explained other that through some weird asset server quirk - maybe cloud-related.

I don't think it comes down to what a person needs in SL but what a person wants.

It comes even downer to whether a customer can persuade a creator to make something.

It comes downest to where a creator's priority lies: somewhere between earing money on the one hand, and the freedom to create whatever they feel like on the other.

Since October 25, MP is suffering from degraded performance. Purchase of a single item may take minutes. I've witnessed someone experiencing this today, at the first occasion of me witnessing someone trying to buy something on MP (during a Discord call).

Me trying to draw up a report for listing enhancements is also still pending, since 5 minutes ago when I requested it. It usually takes about 30 seconds to show up.

  5. 1. Try working for an hour on a script inside an attached object. No matter how often you save it - if your viewer crashes and you log back in, all work for that hour will be lost.

    2. I have one game that will become unresponsive after a while and need a script reset. I haven't been able to figure out why yet. Maybe it's memory use is too close to it's limit.

    3. Back in 2008, I noticed touch_start events become unresponsive after a while, whereas touch_end would always stay responsive. Maybe this was a glitch that has ever since been fixed by Linden Lab. But it has left me traumatized into (almost) never using touch_start, always using touch_end instead.

    4. To all the cursed script writers that think that all scripts need to reset after every on_rez: it's completely unnecessary and only makes the grid more laggy. Repent now, or be doomed to dwell in the Halls of Mandos forever!

    5. Most of the time, the Firestorm script editor behaves nicely with auto-indent (when you hit the return key, all tabs are copied to the next line). But sometimes, when the stars are aligned in an unfavorable position, auto-indent will fail and send your cursor back to the edge of the text window. This will always require the sacrifice of a chicken and a restart of the viewer to fix.

    6. Every so often, a texture inside a haunted tree or grass decides to flip from alpha type blend/mask to alpha type none (I suspect whenever there's a blood moon):

  6. Do I understand the TL;DR correctly? "Linden Lab needs to label potential bots as bots, so other people can finally have friends."

I don't see the problem with bots, really. People are smart enough to figure out who are bots and who are not. Bots are the people you can't have a lasting relationship with human interaction with. Just join a few groups to get a feel of the buzz in SL.

LL spelling out for you who is a bot and who is not, is not going to help. You want human interactions? Better start putting some work in it. No one in SL (or RL) is going to present you new friends on a platter.

  8. What if I make 10 accounts (alts) and log in 10 times on my computer (on most modern computers that's easy as pie). And then I walk away and do other things. But if one of my alts gets an IM from someone, I check it out and respond, if I feel like it.

Are all these accounts bots? Or are they all real people (me)?

How is Linden Lab supposed to distinguish between a 'normal' user and a 'bot-like' user? How do you even begin to define these things?

Peeve: Project Downlift, SL on the Cloudcrap... Faster... Better... Cheaper... NONE out of three ain't bad!

SL's trying to compensate with a new function, https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlRezObjectWithParams

This is great for shooting games, but with one big assumption: the rezzing object is assumed to be owned by the shooter.

This excludes all shooting vehicles from rezzers that are used by non-owners of these vehicles. I such a case, the projectiles rely on a fast on_rez time.
