Well, geez - the computer geniuses were supposed to have "optimized" it - had it at two different shops - is it just the inability of the computer itself?  We have to bust out 1200 bucks for the ASUS to get around in SL?

    Rental Rate:

Land rental rates are different depending on whether you want to rent islands or space on the Mainland.

    • Islands can be rented at US$50 per region per day
    • Mainland Regions can be rented at L$4000 per region per day
    • Events sponsored by or to the benefit of non-profit organizations will receive a discounted rate of L$3000 per Region per day.

    Details

    1. Reservations must be made 2 weeks in advance, and are on a first-come first-served basis.
    2. Residents must include a full description of the event when applying.
    3. Minimal rental period is 3 days.
    4. Residents are allowed to terraform the land, but do not incur tier fees for temporary ownership of the land.
    5. Residents cannot transfer the land during the rental period.
    6. The original state of the Regions will be saved immediately before the rental period. At the conclusion of the rental period, the Regions will be restored.

Additional information you'll need to submit includes:

    • The number of Regions you want
    • Rental start and end dates
    • Whether or not you need to be able to terraform the Regions
    • A full description of your event

Well, I did, but I thought if I bought a piece of land from an estate owner they could control all sorts of things for the whole area like environmental settings and fly zone bans and stuff. Plus, I'm a little confused (haha, little) about things like the tier payments...don't you pay them to individuals if you buy from individuals? In general, the ones I'd seen for individuals seem steeper than what I would pay Linden, taking into account my first 512m has no tier payment. Which brings me to another point of confusion (maybe I should post a diff thread?)... If I buy 1024m, do I pay the tier level for 512m, since that first 512 is waived? If that's true, how does it work if I buy 4096m? The next tier level down from that is only 2048,  adding the 512 brings it to an between- tier amount, which makes me pay the higher tier level, right? So do you only benefit from the waived 512 m if you limit to 1024?  I think I need a book...

If you look at the Land Search in the viewer you can check off Mainland For Sale and it will filter out the private estate listings. If you buy a Mainland parcel you have complete control over the parcel settings that you described above and you will pay your tier directly to Linden Lab. Once you buy a mainland parcel from another resident... you own it, unlike when you "buy" from a private estate which is really just renting.

You get 512 for free with your premium membership. If you want 1024 you have to pay $5 US per month for the aditional 512. If you want 1536 then you pay $8 per month for the aditional 1024. If you pay for 4096 you could actually buy 5120.  Take a look here https://secure-web45.secondlife.com/my/account/landfees.php?lang=en-US

  4. I have never heard of a waiting period.

Not to derail your thread... but have you considered just buying a Mainland parcel from another resident? There are tons of parcels for sale right now at rock bottom prices. The search feature built into the viewer works very well. You can sort by size and price per square meter.

I saw some cool looking fall leaf groundscaping (?) on someone else's property... would that be easy enough to add on top of a grass sim if I wanted to, periodically? Thanks for helping   This is so much fun!

Yes absolutely. Some sculpted trees actually come with the leafy ground cover. I'm not in-world at the moment but if you send me an IM I can drop some land marks on you.

  6. It's good that you asked these questions before you purchased.

No you can not change the terain texture on mainland. If it's a snow sim it is going to stay that way. You could always put down a grass textured prim over the terrain but it's hard to make that look natural.

Changing your viewer to midnight does not effect your neighbors.

Most mainland is +/- 4 meters. You can tell what the terrain limits are by looking in the world menu when you are on the sim. I think you look under estate tools or something like that. There is no way to tell if the land is already raised or lowered to the limit before you buy unfortunately. If you want to know what 4 meters looks like just create a prim and stretch it to 4 meters long.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Interesting question. I guess the thing to do would be AR it quickly and be as specific as you can. Make sure to mention voice and as many hot-button keywords as you can that are actually relevevant. Hopefully if it's a case of racism or verbal sexual assault there would be a Linden coming right out and they might actually hear the abuse on voice. Otherwise I don't know how you would document it. I don't know if the lindens ever talk to witnesses.
