Why do my necklaces sit too high on my avi's neck?

Whenever I try to wear a necklace, it sits too high on my avi's neck, just under her chin. I am not able to modify my shape to make her taller. I do notice that when I first put shoes on that the toes are sticking out past the end of the shoe, but a few minutes later it looks fine. Will the necklace also readjust to be the correct level if I wait? (using SL viewer)

Just edit the necklace.  Right click - Edit and use the arrow keys to move the necklace into place.  Most people use a pose stand when adjusting prim attachments like hair and jewelery so that your avatar doesn't move around while you adjust things.  If you don't have a pose stand, almost any good shop has them and usually provides them to customers at no charge.
