Suddenly not able to view other user's profile or send private chat IM :(

Hello casey and welcome to SL Forums. Sounds like a glitch maybe from lag. You can possibly fix it with a simple relog. There is no a setting as i know to disable accidentally im chat. About profiles: Anytime you can check everyone's profile in https://my.secondlife.com/ For example your profile there is https://my.secondlife.com/casey6487 and mine  https://my.secondlife.com/loveangel.lyre Under your preferences and setup tab, confirm that you have enable plugins and cookies. If the problem remains, clear your cache under preferences --> Advanced tab and relog.

Check your preferences, and make sure the one for allowing cookies is checked. The web-based profiles all use cookies, and that may be at least part of your problem.

thanks for all the help. i tried everything you said and the cookies and plugins were already enabled and then i also cleared my cache under preferences and still the problem remains. i tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling the software as well and also have rebooted my computer several times. I also have tried to change my user name and even open up an entirely new account yet still i can not private I'm or view other profiles. i have been sitting here for 2 days and nothing works. it really sucks cause now i don't think i will be able to play the game anymore unless there is any other way. thanks again for the help
