Filename for chat log files (Win XP Viewer 2)

There is an issue I have not been able to solve. Since 2007 and the later viewer 1.23 times I save my text chat logs. Viewer 2 is able to use the same folder. But it refuses to use the old filename and to continue the old log. On my machine the old filename looks like this: "Trew Lane.txt". The new one looks like this: "trew_lane.txt". The underscore is my issue. I would love the new viewer to continue the old log. Is there a way for an ordinary user like me to accomplish that? Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Why not just grab the saved contents in the old file and copy them into the new one?  There's nothing magical about a file name.  If the new viewer wants to use a name with an underscore in it, let it.  All you really care about is still having access to all of your old logs, right?
