pose balls and streaming music working intermittently

for the past 2 or 3 days my efforts at using pose balls have been a comedy of errors. Either they work, which is rare, or I just sit there while my partner is ready to roll.... I have not changed anything and can't figure out why it doesn't work sometimes. Also, I sim hop a lot and lately It's entirely random as to whether I will hear streamed music or just the ambient sounds when I get here.

 

Can these two things be connected? Any suggestions to resolve? (I have logged, cleared cache and redone the settings to no avail. I also turn off my AO when trying to use a pose ball. Doesn't always help)
