Lof into the SL web site.   On the sidebar of your dashboard, choose Account.  Then choose Age Verification.  Follow the directions on the page this leads you to.  Once you age verify, relog or log into your viewer and set your search preferences etc. to include Adult ratings.

First go to your account dashboard.  On the left hand side you'll see an "Account" link with an arrow.....expand to see "Age Verification".  Click on it and follow the instructions.  Second, launch your viewer and open "Preferences".  On the General tab you'll see "I want to access" and three letters..........G, M, and A.  Click all three. 

 

That should get you "adult rated".  You can test it by searching for adult content in world.  Maybe search "adult videos" or "porn".  If you can access the area, you are adult verified and have access to all content in SL (with the exception of parcels or sims that are not open to the public or open to group members only.
