I just joined SL and the viewer isn't loading.

Hi,

 

I just joined SL and downloaded the viewer and it keeps crashing. I meet all the necessary requirements, though I am unsure about my graphics card, which is an intel(r)HD graphics card, though this is supposedly better than the minumum one needed for SL. 

 

I'm only minumally tech savvy, so go easy on me!

Hello locke and welcome to SL Forums. Try the following.

1)Change your performance under Menu Me --> Preferences --> Graphics tab --> Set it temporarily to low and try again to log in.

2)Switch in Advanced Mode, you find the option down in your log in screen. After again under your Preferences --> General tab --> Enable "Show on log in" --> OK. Where it says "Start at" type Smith and Login. We do that to be able to log in a different region.

3)Power down your modem / router, let it closed for 2-3 mins, restart your computer, power on and try again.

4)If the problem remains try another Third-Party Viewer. Many residents use Phoenix or Firestrom. You can find all of them here.

Perhaps you could edit your post (select edit from the options menu in the top right corner of your post) and tell us how far in the startup process the viewer get before it stops? Does it crash before you get to the login screen, after you press Log in, and how far it gets loading SL?
