How about using a VLC plugin for playback?

I would love to see a VLC plugin integrated with the Standard Viewer for Streaming Media Playback, I think this would allow for way more stream support.

If you don't know VLC visit www.videolan.org as it is, I believe, the best player.

I do agree that we need some universally available media streaming support in the viewer, as a plugin, and I think that VLC, despite some of its problems, would be welcome.  I keep hearing people trying to run streaming services for private use complaining that QuickTime compatible streaming server software is either useless or expensive.

VLC does horrible things to some audio formats.  I don't know why or have a list of them but I do know that some of the media I have sounds horrible when VLC plays it and sounds really good when Windows Media Player plays it.
