Hi all, I'm new and would love to have some people to chat to in game. It would also be good to know a bit about the social aspect of SL so I don't make any embarassing faux pas. :)

Welcome Aetchfish, try using to search for places that match ur interests and then don´t be scared to throw some words into chat. It takes a while to get used to and find a crowd to hang around with; just like in RL.

Oh and don´t be scared to embarass someone, i think we all did that on start and erm.... still do sometimes

Embarassing faux pas ... I think it goes with the territory along with wearing boxes on your head .... been there done both more than once, lol
