Welcome to Second Life Answers, Minuet.

It sounds like you had an interruption to your connection. Have you tried teleporting back out of the area? If this does not work, then try a relog.

If this does not work then try pressing "ctrl", "alt", "rebake" at the same time.

If your avatar still refuses to load, then you need to do a character test. Press "ctrl", "alt", "D" at the same time to bring up the Advanced Menu. Click on the "Advanced" menu and choose from the list of options that drops down "Character", then "Character Test", then "Test Male/Female".  Now your avatar will look like a factory default avatar, but this is ok. Do not worry.  All you need to do then is open your inventory and drag your usual skin, shape, hair, clothes and HUDs across to your avatar.
