Search for a coalescent object in your lost and found folder (it looks like a broken cube). Your items may have been returned in block. Go to a sandbox, click edit terrain and drag the cube to the ground, your items should rez in the same position they were before they were returned to you. Then take them one by one back to your inventory.

in addition to other replies given; here are a couple of links that might be useful:

http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Building-tips/ta-p/700041#Section_.3
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/How_to_retrieve_coalesced_items

items don't always show up in lost and found right away, so have patience.

and - just an fyi re. "Who do I contact to retrieve personal items taken in land confiscation?": no one can take your items unless you have specifically given them the rights to do this. it is done by first adding them to your friends list and then giving them edit rights to your objects.

add info/comments to your post by using options > edit.

Sounds like your landlord defaulted on their monthly tier payments, and LL reclaimed the land from them.

In such cases, the items on the land often get auto-returned, which has the unfortunate effect of clumping them in random conglomerations called "coallesced objects" and dumping them into the original owner's lost and found folder. It's about as elegant as a new landlord taking over, and using a backhoe to scoop all the stuff in your apartment out and drop it in a dumpster in one big mess.

The others already gave you links for how to recover coallesced objects from your lost and found. Follow those directions to get your stuff back.
