Water and objects are invisible

I don't know what forum to put this in, but this has become a persistant problem since I got my new computer (iMac).  Sometimes more than half the objects in my 4-sim store disappear, including entire houses.  All I can see are particles -- smoke from the chimneys, flames on candles, etc.  I know the things are still there because I cannot walk through them.

 

I know, relog -- but this is every time I log in, at some point, things vanish.  Is there some setting I need to change?

This is also happening to me with Linux & Phoenix. Linux & Firestorm/Dolphin/LL's V2 do not do this for me. Also I do not have this problem if I boot on Windows. What viewer are you using?

I am using Imprudence on a new iMac.  I cleared cache and some things came back but now the textures do strange things -- the flowers have little squares instead of flower texture; other texures never fully rez.  Make is pretty hard to build.
