Weird Places in SL that are no longer accessible

This might sound like a weird question but if you look at the world map it is scattered with individual regions but when a region doesn't get paid it gets taken back by Governor Linden however do regions clear off the world map or do they just keep accumulating? What I mean by this are they just cluttering up the world map with little green dots of what used to be there or do they eventually disappear if you click on a region and the circle is blue that means it is no longer accessible or no longer there

The -- 'regions visable on the map but don't have a name come up when you click on them' is a bug.
