Without knowiing what kind of error message you are getting, it is hard to guess what the problems might be.  Edit your original message and add some more detail about what's happening so we can try to help.

Edit your message listing what is specifically wrong or not working

You could also try: installing SL and then reinstalling fresh or try another viewer altogether.  I use Phoenix and like it but there are several http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_party_viewers#Third-party_Viewers
