I would love to find some friends, I'm relatively new and don't really know what I'm doing 

I'm 20, a college student, okay with using voice, and enjoy shopping/reading/gaming.

You're very savvy for being new. Already in the forums. Impressive. 

From your viewer if you go to the top of the screen and click world and map, type in Bellihub there's a lot of newer educational information there, as well as, the premium home demos (very fun to play with the different home controls). All around that area is Bellisseria lots of peaceful places to explore.

If you use the Firestorm viewer, join the inworld Firestorm support group. If you want to find free clothes & stuff, join "SL Frees & Offers" and "Fabulously Free". Whatever your interests are, look for groups that fit with those interests & join a couple of the biggest groups in those subjects. Keep open group spaces for stores, so you can get their group gifts. Don't collect too much free stuff, but only what you really like & think you'll use. Keep your inventory organized with sub-folders & a "Sort this Stuff" folder now, before your inventory gets out of control. Always Demo mesh & anything that costs a bit of money, such as skins. Don't be afraid to talk to people, but don't get upset if they're not friendly back. People are often doing multiple things at the same time, so they might not even notice your IM. Besides the very good videos at BelliHub, also look for Second Life videos on YouTube, but only watch the ones that are a year or so old, not the really old ones. Second Life is constantly changing. Go exploring by going to random places on the map or from Search.
