Caldeon Oxbridge, NCI and other in-world groups provide free classes on all aspects of SL, including creating your own objects/clothes/textures/animations/scripts, etc.

You will probably have a lot more fun learning and using SL to its full and may well make more money selling your own creations.

In the mean time you really don't need very much money at all in SL.  Newbie contests are a great way to get starter money.
