0 Lindal Kidd
The owner of a regular full private estate region pays a monthly land fee of $295 USD to Linden Lab. The owner of a grandfathered region only pays a fee of $195 USD per month, under an earlier pricing structure. This lower monthly fee makes a grandfathered region more valuable. Grandfathered regions may be transferred from the current owner to a new owner, and if the new owner pays a higher transfer fee ($600, rather than the regular $100) the lower grandfathered monthly fee will transfer to the new owner. See this page: https://community.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/english/managing-private-regions-r50/#Section__3_1 The grandfathered pricing can not be obtained when buying a "new" region directly from Linden Lab. To find grandfathered regions for sale, see this forum: https://community.secondlife.com/forums/forum/284-regions-for-sale-full-private-island/ Note that there is a specific process by which a region may be transferred from the current owner to a new owner. Both parties must submit a support ticket to Linden Lab requesting the transfer. The buyer will deposit the purchase money with Linden Lab. They will hold the funds "in escrow" until the current owner transfers the region. There is no physical difference between a grandfathered and a non-grandfathered region. 2. Long ago, the monthly land fee was $195 USD for all private regions. Then Linden Lab increased that to $295 per month. According to them, this was because new and more powerful servers cost more to run and maintain. However, they allowed the owners of existing regions to continue to pay the old, lower price. 3. There is no way to distinguish whether a region is grandfathered or not, except to ask the current owner or to file a support case with Linden Lab and ask them.
