Bake Fail is sometimes the result of connection issues. SL is terribly finicky about the quality and latency of the connection, but not so much about the speed. You may have a super zippy link, but if it's dropping packets, or there is excessive delay in getting those packets between you and the servers, problems will arise.

ETA: If you have an alternate viewer, I'd try it. I always keep two different viewers handy so I can isolate viewer related issues. I'd have both the official SL viewer and Firestorm ready for troubleshooting. If the bake fail suggestions don't help, try another viewer. If that fixes things, you may need to do a clean install of the misbehaving viewer.
