Anyone pre ordering the Oculus Rift?

Pre orders can be made on January 6th.

 

I'm not pre odering but I will be checking on upgrading my desktop computer to be able to use it.

The Oculus Rift VR headset is pre-order priced at $599.

The i5-5490 currently sells for about $200.

The Nvidia gtx 970 sells for about $340.

Adding all the extra parts for a full desktop computer would bring the total price up to about $1,500.

Quite an expensive system! Fortunately pc component prices always go down and the rift requirements will remain the same.

The HTC Vive is priced at $800. It comes with motion controllers and room sensors. 

The PC requirements are the same as the Oculus. So about $900.

Bringing the grand total for the Vive and base PC to $1,700.

Let's see what Sony will come up with

Sony has announced that the PlayStation VR is $400. The PS4 console is $350. The PS4 camera is $40 and two move controllers are $60 for a grand total of $850. Significantly less than the total $1,500 for an Oculus with no 3d controllers and $1,700 for the Vive.
