you don't.

they might tell you, or you might guess by them not responding to you. but you will never know for sure.

I don't think you can find out if omeone muted you unless they do not respond to your IMs (which does not mean they muted you, maybe they just don't feel like answering you). In some cases people may not get your IMs because they got too many and they got capped. In this case it may be a good idea to send a notecard.

There is one way to find out, when you mute someone anything they send you gets auto-declined, so if you tried to send something and it gets declined faster than a normal person could read and click a box, its a safe bet you are muted.

EDIT: Of course if you are not muted and you annoy them by sending stuff, they might mute you after that lol

you can also set auto-decline in some TPV's as well as busy mode doing this, so it's not a 100% accurate method.
