When looking for a place to check out how can one tell how many other individuals are there?

You can open the MAP in your tool bar and type in the region you want to check ... you will then see some green dots on the map, if anyone else is in this area. One dot = one present avatar.

Once you're there, you can hit the "People" button and then "nearby".  That will give you a list of avatars in your vicinity.
