Land for a couple?

If I purchase a premium membership and buy land, does my boyfriend also have to purchase a premium membership to set his home there?

no, other can set their home on any land which allow to set home. So He don't need to get a premium account for setting home to your land.

Best bet, start a group (if you haven't already) with just the two of you as members. Then set all the Land options ot Group only. Over time, you can invite friends to join the group, but you can alos limit their abilities. Such as let them run scripts and rez objects, but can't terraform.
