I'm guessing that you are trying to answer Karen's question in http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Hey-people-i-m-back-to-to-give-it-one-more-shot-Friend-really/qaq-p/2508161

She gave you the system requirements for running a SL viewer on a Linux-based PC, so you can tell from that whether your machine meets the minimum requirements.  Ifyou are not using Linux, but are using Window, you'll find the requirements here >>> https://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/

I'm not sure that this is a useful way to approach the problem you are having, though.  Where are you?  Are you by any chance on a college campus or trying to connect to SL from a business?  The specific message that you are getting means that you are failing to make a connection to SL's servers through the Internet.  It usually happens if your ISP is having trouble or if your connection has to go through some sort of proxy server, such as you'd expect on a campus or corporate system.  If you are in that sort of environment, go to your system IT offfice and ask them to look at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539#Section_.3

They should be able to give you the necessary port numbers , addresses, and other information that you need to connect properly through their proxy server.
