If the prims are not yours, simply delete them.  On the other hand if they are listed as your prims but you don't know where they are or why they are there you can segregate them using groups.  Set the land parcel to a group and then set all the prims you can find to that same group.  The prims that belong to you that are NOT in the group are now separated in the object tab as Owned by others.  You can use that to try to find them with the highlight or use the Return button.   I use this trick when I'm building a complex object and want to make sure I don't leave stray prim lying around.
