Kimono sleeves

Hum, here's a touchy subject: are long kimono sleeves possible in mesh SL?

Of course, I'm mainly talking about the problems with rigging them, since the physics in SL is extremely limited. I suspect this would probably involve some advanced rigging and perhaps even the adding of new bones for aditional movement and then adapting this back into the SL skeleton.

 

But is it possible? I'd love to make an outfit for myself (not for the shop) with some kimono sleeves. I took a quick look at the marketplace and, although rare, there do seem to be a few mesh kimono that have longer, proper sleeves.

Any insight?

The only insight I can give you is that adding bones isn't an option. So you'd have to rig to the lower arm (elbow). Depending on the animations you use that might or might not work.

Unfortunately, custom bones aren't really an option now, nor for the forseeable future.

 

The only way I could see to do it would be to model the lower portion of the sleeve as a set of flexible prims, and attaching those so they seem to flow from the mesh arms.

I was always disappointed at how there are a lot of kimono that have "cardboard sleeves" as far as I know, sakka studio has the most realistic kimono I'll ever come by; the sleeves don't stick out weirdly.
