Watching movies in SL

I have a question, lets say you want to have movie night at your SL home. Now i see some people allow prims to display websites such as youtube, but is there a way in which you can watch movies that are in your cd rom player in your laptop/computer and make it show on a prim so you and your friends can watch it as well like watching youtube videos in SL? thanks

Regardless of whether you use shared media (media on a prim) or a SL TV a movie must be streamed into SL and therefore must be loaded on a server with the appropriate software to stream it. Anytime you stream a movie you must have a license to do it, even though  you own a personal copy.  Your personal copy is only licensed to be shown in your home not streamed on the internet, even to a 'private' audience.

You can however buy a TV that allows you to rent full length movies in SL.
