  1. A few things. First, be sure you are looking using either CalWL or Nam's ultimate Skin and Prim windlights. Next, turn off advanced lighting. Next, when looking for a match, look at the side or back of the neck, NOT under the chin. Under the chin, you're going to get a shadow from the chin. Chances are you'll now see a match.

That being said, I don't really know of too many people that will zoom in on your neck that closely. Also, you can only get your skin/avi to look great to you. You have no way of controlling what windlight others around you use. So, don't sweat not having an absolutely perfect match as it's highly unlikely anyone is going to be looking at the color that closely for it to be a problem. To prove it, after you get that perfect match, try the default sky or one of the other windlight settings and you'll see you don't have that perfect match anymore. There is no way to get a perfect match in all the different windlights people use.

  2. The dress could be as simple as linking the wrong parts together. For instance, if you link a torus to a mesh object, the LI will skyrocket.

As for the flexi, that's here to stay. I can't imagine a gown that doesn't flow. That short dress looks like it has a lot of layers that had transparency and flexi. One way that's helping is mesh parts with flexi added for movement.

Bling will add huge amts of complexity. Older shoes, particularly the ones from a designer that is no longer in SL was horrible on scripting. Some older stuff has resizers that have a child script in every prim. I once had an outfit that had a lot of fancy prim work in the tassels and studs. Between the outfit and the boots it had over 800 scripts in it. Fortunately it was mod and Firestorm has the remove scripts function.

This is the one you were talking about.

  4. Doesn't really matter to me. Since I use a vendor in my store, everything is boxed. I do applier clothing so inside the main box is the applier and then a box labeled System Clothes. Also has a picture of the outfit and my landmark. If it has multiple items for the outfit I'll have a notecard with the suggested layer for the clothing item. The box this is packed into is a plain box with my logo. That's it.

  5. SL has bugs but NOTHING like when I first started 10 years ago. Then, when you TPd, anything above your neck or ankles down ended up in the middle. This includes hair, jewelry, and shoes. You'd regularly fold over in half like you'd been cut in half.

Every Wednesday, the grid went down at 8 AM SLT for maintenance, supposedly for 4 hours...which often became 8 or more. Let's not forget the great blackout that went for 4 days.

Then you had the days you couldn't TP. Where you rezzed in is where you were stuck. I spent 2 days at the Gov. Linden mansion.

If you were dancing with a dance ball, if you forgot to disconnect, you'd still be dancing when you TPd and got to your destination.

Then textures didn't always load on avis and they'd be wearing a default white texture with Missing Texture in black letters on it. I can remember some enterprising people that made actual clothes with that texture on it to freak others out.

Like today's mesh bodies, you had one item per layer though there was no tat layer then. So, when mesh bods came out, it was easy to revert to what I did when we first started.

I can remember the grid crashing for a few hours the first time 35K people were logged in.

I can remember when you tried to rez out a box and you ended up wearing it as a hat.

SL has come a very long way in 10 years. A lot of bugs have been fixed. Some that crop up now are because of hidden bombs in the code. The original coders are long gone and there was no documentation left for what they did. When the current coders change something, sometimes it reacts with something they didn't know was buried in the code. It wasn't that long ago when you suddenly couldn't upload anything. The coders found that the code set up to assign UUID's was maxed out on the number it could assign. The original coders had put, what they thought was, an astronomical number that they never thought would be reached...it was. That had to be fixed, which they did quickly.

I personally think that the coders for SL are doing a phenomenal job updating since they are having to work with a base code that is so old that they can't get rid of without breaking a LOT of SL content.

  6. A land owner can set terraforming for anyone but on mainland is kind of useless since you can only terraform it +/-4 meters.

I had almost 1/2 a sim at one time, purchased a parcel at a time. They were all group owned and rez by group only but I missed one parcel setting autoreturn. I noticed a dot up above me when I was in my workshop and checked the prims used and who rezzed them and saw 500 or so under a name I didn't recognize. I flew up to about 3000m and there was a guy that had set up a fully furnished skybox. I kicked him from the group and banned him. Then I got mean. I returned his skybox in pieces from opposite sides of the box and managed to include a no copy item in most so he had to rez them out to retrieve his stuff. As you know, coalesced objects rez in the relationship they were in when returned so 20 meters or more apart.

I would have loved to be there when he started opening stuff up.

I then set up a small area for opening boxes with a 5 minute return.

  7. When you are looking for color match, a few things you have to do since different windlight settings can cause problems. Use either the CalWL or Nam's skin and prom. Turn off advanced lighting. Now, look at the back of the neck, not under the chin. Under the chin, you're going to have shadows. If they match at the back, that's the best you can do. Look at yourself from a normal distance as well since others aren't going to be zooming in close to check on a slight difference in tone.

You can only look good/perfect for yourself. You have no way of controlling how others see you.

  8. A properly made applier shirt will have the shirt set up with the upper and lower shirt. I use templates that have both.

For mesh clothing, demo them. I find Lapointe and BastChild works well. They have everything from a Tux to shorts. Most support Aesthetic, Slink, Signature Gianni and they are updating to include the Belleza. Many of the bodies don't have a good fit because the creator hasn't released a developer kit with the rigging and weights that the designers need. So you can blame them rather the designers.

  9. For lingerie check Blueberry and Etchaflesh.

As for applier lingerie, try it. It doesn't look on the mesh bodies like it does on the default. The default body has lower texture resolution than the mesh bodies do. Mesh bodies have 4 times the resolution the default has. Think of the difference in a picture taken on a 4 megapixel camera versus a 16 megapixel camera. So applier clothing made with newer textures will have a better look on a mesh body than the default, depending on the creator. For applier lingerie, check out Blacklace and F*n Hot. There are lists of designers on the Mesh Body Addicts and the Omega web sites

  10. That's 8 AM-6PM Eastern time and 1PM-11PM British time. They are trying to pick times that is convenient for the majority of SL residents. The 5AM-3PM is SLT aka Pacific time or the actual time it is in San Francisco. Seems a good compromise to me and makes the chat available to the most people. You can always fill out a support case ticket.

  11. On a different avi, I was an official SL mentor and it was fun. The portals were set up by different groups. There were some set up for other languages. There was a German one. I loved the Japanese one. It was set up like you were walking through a subway station. One of the fantasy sims had one too.

One reason they closed the gateways was they switched the naming protocol to Resident last name. Prior to that, the different gateways had name sets. I can remember for RP purposes hunting the gateways for a specific last name as I was creating my daughter.

There were also problems with some of the mentors thinking they had some kind of special powers. I think one vocal somewhat cantankerous person here on the forums must have run into some of these and posted that the mentors were corrupt. Rather than try to weed out the bad apples as well as the focus changing, LL just discontinued the program and went to one where you entered and got some very basic stuff then you chose what you were interested in and want through that TP and got dumped in random areas that sometime had to do with what you wanted but no further guidance.

I'm glad to see the portals back as there was a much higher retention rate when there was someone there to greet and help new residents.

  12. You don't need a "bento" shape. What makes a difference is if you get a bento head. They are rigged a bit differently and you'll have to tweak the shape so the head looks normal. https://gyazo.com/bdfa5349bf9e6cea3841ade1d18a342d with my default avi.... https://gyazo.com/e63210bdc5f2cea348c7fc6bd13a45ff after I tweaked it for the Bento head...that was the new LOGO Quinn. Then you just save that shape. I saved as BobbieQuinn. I also have one that says BobbieCatwa and BobbieLelutka. Since each head is rigged differently, the underlying shape is different.

So, As long as you don't wear a mesh head, you're good. If your shape is, mod, and it should be, if you do get a mesh head, just some tweaking will be required and you'll still be you.

  13. The vampire thing was from The Fearless Vampire Killers starring Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski.

As for local food, I was born and raised in Tampa, FL. Local food was mixed..You had the Latin influence so you had hot, pressed Cuban sandwiches but you have to get them at the right place, not one of the wannabees in town. Tropicana restaurant in Ybor City, Alessi Bakery, La Terisita were the places to go. Another was yellow rice and chicken from Valencia Gardens. One pot dish that was soooo good.

The other was fresh seafood of any kind. I could go down to the docks where the boars came in and get it right off the boat. Also had shrimpers on the corners on Saturday afternoon with fresh shrimp that was still kicking, so to speak.

  14. Rather than commission, which will cost you a small fortune, look around and find one you like. Not all skins have a well-defined 6 pack. Lots of demos to find what you want. http://meshbodyaddicts.com/mesh-body-designers-list/skin-designers-male-mesh-bodies/ has a list of skins to take a look at. You'll want an Omega-compatible body, which Slink is. Then look at Omega compatible skins. Omega is just a universal applier script that makes life easier for creators.
