Actually... "Nice Guy" seems to be a newer slang way to refer to an Incel. It's in reference to the fact that Incels tend to self proclaim that no nice guy can actually succeed with women, because you know women are horrible or something, only "Chads" can succeed and "nice guys" are left out. So now I've been seeing a lot of the "young folks with their funny words" use the term "Nice Guy" as a side-eyed reference to an Incel.

Yes, I know. Another poster also thought that this thread was about incels:

That whole list from the first page or two seemed pure incel to me.

I have probably 10 men friends in SL, some of them pretty close, who are really just . . . wonderful. They are respectful, kind, and generous...

Now, none of them are sexual or romantic partners. But that's sort of the point. They could be...

Sounds like hell for your men friends. That's like applying for a position with a company, and told you're the perfect candidate. You have all the qualifications we are looking for. The position, though, is filled with someone else less qualified than you and probably an alcohol and drug abuser. Nevertheless, we will never hire you even if the position becomes vacant. We will, however, IM you from time to time and complain about the guy currently occupying the position.

I made most of my friends while roleplaying, so we had a common interest. I find it hard to make connections in random settings like music clubs, as I have no idea what the other person wants.

You are role playing when you are at a music club in SL. It's not actually a music club and you are not physcally present. It's a chat room that has an appearance of a club and you are behind a computer screen somewhere in RL in your pajamas and probably not wearing high heels. You're just playing the role of a visitor at a music club. What usually happens at music clubs? What do the people there typically want? That's the role play.

And when you take that first step in SL and dare to say hi, you are that sex driven male pervert, before you know it.
Much more than in RL in my experience.

So I've put in my profile that I seldom start a conversation and live my silent and quiet SL.

It's tough being a dude in SL. That's why most men in SL present themselves as women.

I'll ask my question again with more detail: what do (nice polite) men want in SL? for example, in a music club or casual hangout place.

Same thing anyone wants.  To be treated like a human - Conversation, debate, laughs, a kind word, silliness or seriousness, to be heard and seen for who they are, connection.

So a fragile human connection in a vast and uncaring metaverse? That's too much to ask for. It's an unrealistic expectation. Realistic expectations are bots, AFK avatars, suspicion, hostility, deceit and rudeness.

Maybe cos nice people tend to be shy and obnoxious ones aren't?

Nice guys are too shy to post in the forum. Anyone posting here is automatically disqualified as a nice guy. The best you can hope for are people who have succeeded with nice guys to post what nice guys seem to want.

aggressively self promote everyplace you go, tell everyone you meet you have a store, put a pick for it in your profile, you can even rent ad boards or even better if you can get friends to let you put ads for free on thier land.

That should make you as about as popular as an Amway salesperson.

I get to explore my sexuality, meet people I would never get to meet in rl and experience art instalations in a way I can't in rl. I expect the women in sl are going around doing their own thing too 🤷‍♂️. What are we discussing again?

Evidently, the reasons why there is so much promiscuity in SL, aka, Sex Life.

  9. The best I encountered was Lost. It sparked this conversation:

    Rand: "Do you feel lost?"

    Them: "No, you found me."

Rand: "But I didn't know I was looking for you."

    Them: "No one ever does."

Rand: "Were you looking for me?"

Them: "No I wasn't. Are you lost?"

Rand: "I feel that way a lot."

    Them: "Don't we all."

Who gave you the impression that SL is there for investment reasons?

Maybe this book: How to Make Real Money in Second Life: Boost Your Business, Market Your Services, and Sell Your Products in the World's Hottest Virtual Community.

Or perhaps this article in Fortune: Anshe Chung: First Virtual Millionaire

Possibly this Wikipedia article: In 2009, the total size of the Second Life economy grew 65% to US$567 million, about 25% of the entire U.S. virtual goods market. Gross Resident Earnings are $55 million US Dollars in 2009 – 11% growth over 2008.

Even in 2023, you should be able to earn enough in SL to support your activities without putting any real money into the game.

As Bill Fletcher says, anything you spend here on land, houses, clothing, vehicles, etc. is like money spent to go to a movie or an amusement park. And it's a lot less expensive than those entertainments too.

What about that PC with the RTX4090 so you can watch flying body parts rezz faster? Is that a lot less expensive than a movie?

Why would tourists go to San Francisco for it's beaches, when the more interesting attractions are in the city?

They want to avoid the open-air drug dens and used syringes and human feces on San Francisco city streets:

San Francisco’s once-trendy downtown area has descended into a drug-addled hellscape — where addicts regularly overdose in city-funded “dens of death.”

That's the new trend. Even this quiet neighborhood I've seen guys running down the street checking if car door handles are locked at 3am. Don't leave good stuff in the car and lock it. There's been stories about people hiding in the back seat too. It doesn't take much to be careful.

Locking won't matter. The thieves break the windows:

The criminals often engage in “bipping and boosting,” a process in which they smash car windows, grab what they can and quickly drive away, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, which said thieves could often target multiple parked vehicles in a single day.

I used to follow Strawberry Singh before she became Strawberry Linden.

I would call her the Gold Standard in blogging. Very informative. Writing every detail. Taking gorgeous pictures. Since she is a LL employee, her fashion posts has stopped and she blog about events and such for LL.

What's an example of a current good blogger?

    Profky Neva at https://3dblogger.typepad.com/second_thoughts/

    or

    Hamlet Au at https://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/

    or some other blogger?
