Shows like The Mandelorian, Star Wars, Star Trek, and even Lord of the Rings all tend to fall roughly within the "PG" range for the good reason that, while there is violence, it is not graphic (or, in most cases, particularly extreme).

For comparison, consider Game of Thrones, which features extremely graphic violence, frequently intended to shock (and titillate).

The descriptions of "Adult" and "Moderate" ratings do not explicitly mention combat RP, because the issue isn't so much "violence," which both can feature, as "extreme violence," which is not permitted in "Moderate."

I don't doubt that many combat RP regions are "Adult" just to be on the safe side, as Coffee suggests -- but I really don't think there is any reason why combat of the sort that is characteristic of Star Wars, The Mandelorian, etc., should not be allowable on Moderate regions. It's the kind of stuff that you get in GOT or the new series based on Fallout that should be restricted to Adult because there the violence is much more extreme, explicit, graphic, and part of the narrative.

There's a real danger in sort of blurring the lines here -- "swords and light sabers are extreme violence" -- because it elides very real distinctions between how people respond to the depictions of violence. Somebody being run through with a sword, with a little splash of blood, is quite different from someone being graphically disemboweled by one.

@Frankie Antonelli, I hope that this explains my objections? I don't think combat RP should be, or indeed by the rules IS restricted to Adult. I think THAT depends on the way in which the combat is depicted. But please feel free to respond here, or in-world, if you want to talk about this more. I get that combat RP is important to some child avatars, but we can't simply collapse the rating system to accommodate that. I think instead we need to think carefully about what we mean by "combat" and "extreme violence."

I never saw Game of Thrones. I have seen Vikings, and the Sopranos. I belong to some combat groups, but I don't do any combat.  I do have a store that sells guns, and other items.

It was an ask, not a change in policy.

The point is that child avatars were able to engage in violent RP ("combat RP") of the sort permitted only on Adult regions (it falls under representations of "extreme violence," which the rating system limits to Adult), but will no longer be able to because of the new restrictions.

The request was that "extreme violence" now be permitted on Moderate regions so that child avatars could still do combat RP.

Which would have the effect of opening up "Moderate" to other forms of extreme violence, such as torture RP.

It's a terrible idea. And it won't happen.

I don't think it should be any thing like torture. I think it should be just combat. And I think they should be able to do that in PG sims. Just not real graphic. So if they want to do a pirate battle, historical battle, or urban combat, then they should.

Just not torture, or anything else very graphic.

Am I missing something. Where does it say Child Avatars are able to engage in combat?

Scylla Rhiadra said this in the first page.

=Also someone asking that "extreme violence" be now permitted on Moderate regions so that kids can participate in combat RP. Which I'd sure as hell fight. And also, kids in gory, violent combat RP? WTF?=

So that tells me that child avatars can now engage in combat.

  4. Ok, I just did a lot of reading. I do think it is great that child avatars can engage in combat. But can child avatars play Zyngo?  Why not have the combat done in PG sims?

There is something I have been wondering about furries. Why don't they dress up as Planet of the Apes? I even searched places, and there are none for Planet of the Apes. But theres a bunch for Star Wars.

  5. Ok, I read a lot of the post, but not all.

It wasn't until about three years ago, that I found out that there were private parts for child avatars.  Somebody had bought some land in a sim, that was near the sim that my store was located in. They bought the land from auction.  I checked the land, and who bought it. Later on, I saw the name appear on the screen. I clicked on my radar, and then focus. That was when I saw her. She was up in the sky, and was wearing a short skirt, but no panties. I didn't message her, and went back to doing other things.  A few days later I messaged her, and told her about a sim that was for sale. It was a couple of sims over, to the east of my store. I knew the guy, that owned the land, and messaged him. I told her what he wanted for the land.

She didn't buy the land. The land that she bought, she divided it up for sale. She had to keep lowering the price to sale the land. She later on deleted her account.

Now what should be done. I have read that some members spent a lot of money for their skins. I think LL should some how compensate those members. Perhaps give them gift cards, that they can give to those that make child avatars. Or if possible, LL could edit the skins that they bought, and put the baked on under wear on.

Now, about some of the sims. I think all the Blake Sea sims, should be made into PG sims. And perhaps some of the other sims. This includes some of the sandboxes.

  6. Hey Reed Linden, you didn't mention that I had came up with something just like this. It was called Minor Premium. I think that more land than that should be offered for membership. Here is what I propose.

    Plus=1024 sq. meters of land.

    Premium=2048 sq. meters of land.

Premium Plus= 4096 sq. meters of land.

If it was setup like that, then more land would sell. Today, some land in the sim where my store is at, was abandoned. It is  now at 40,448 sq. meters. In some sims, the whole sim, or most of the sim is abandoned.

Another thing that can be done is to build more roads, and railroads.  That could help to sell more land. Also, ask those that own half a sim, or a whole sim if they want a road built in their sim. It may not be possible to build roads in some sims, because somebody may own lots of land if they want a road built.

If they do, they could build an urban sim, and have streets connect to the road.

So have somebody that works with the land, to talk with the moles, and talk to players that own lots of land. Some may not want a road built on their land. Others might.

  7. I have no plans to downgrade my membership. I prefer owning 1024 sq. meters of land, and the ability to belong to 70 groups. But I do think that Linden Lab should have mentioned my name in the community post.  I had an idea for something like that. I even made a post on the Jira. I now hope that more mainland will sell. There was some land near my store that was put up for auction. But no body made a bid. So the land is still abandoned. And its not just in the sim that my store is in. But in several others.

This is too late and not up to even reasonable levels of what any of us actually want. LL being out of touch as normal

Mainland is horrid with poor performance and awkward shapes and resold at stupid prices.  more mainland does nothing.

More stipend? sure but eh?    Free uploads. Noice. I like that.

But....how about? Better private full sim prices??? Maybe?? Homestead without needing to fork out having to own a FULL REGION?  most people cant afford half a months work wages or even 25% of the upper classes wages on a dam sim.

LL. you would make more money in region volume if the barrier to entry and reoccurring fee's where lower.  More active sims need to be built up to there themes aka....more market sales and more Lindens bought to pay/buy items/people to build those regions with objects!.

and ya know some other small neat things

1.more animesh attachment limits (dude..its the same tech our avatars run on stop making it seem like its taxing...)

(a rant about other issues effecting SL enjoyment for most and how SL could actually make more money on market fee's if.......items wernnt so *NO EDIT* plagued)
    2a. More attachment count
2b. update the permission settings so stupid content creators stop NO MODDING ***** that we buy because they think that  it *protects* their items from being *stolen* (it does not as OPEN GL has zero security as debug tools can see everything....., if you don't want your stuff stolen don't play SL (also bad ban the thieves))
2C. Reason why?   We run into attachment limits because we cant link stuff with NO MOD on it....... everything that's rigged can easily be linked together as one attachment.....

    3. Mesh makers should supply mod yes options to people if they ask...like this just kills creativity and self no profit modding (cant sell whats no transfer :P)

I love the mainland. What I don't like is zoning. I see very little use for zoning. Build what you want. As long as its not on a 16 sq. meter lot. Anything that is less than 512 sq. meters, should be set by LL, so that it could not be sold. The only exception would be to LL. I like seeing houses, clubs, stores, and skyscrapers in the same sim.

  9. Ok, I'm in favor of Premium Plus, there is something I'm confused about. If you are a regular premium, do you still get live chat support? Or do you have to have Premium Plus? Also, why not let those with Premium Plus own 4096 sq. meters of land, instead of 2048 sq. meters? Those that are charter members can own 4096, and don't have to pay tier. They paid a one time fee, that is less than $500.00. So let those with Premium plus own 4096 sq. meters of land, and let those with regular premium own 2048 sq. meters of land.

Next, lets have minor premium. Minor Premium would be $3..00 a month, or $22.00 a year. With minor premium, you can own 1024 sq. meters of land, but get no stipend, and no live support. Those that get stipend get about $4.00 US a month. And then there's live support.

If this was done, then there would be less abandoned land. More basic accounts would then be signing up. There may need to be some adjustments to the price. It might be a little bit higher than $3.00 a month, and $22.00 a year.

  10. I'm having problems with Singularity. When I click on it, two tabs comes up. One is a black rectangle, with lots of text. The other one is the Singularity viewer. I can get on SL, but theres lots of lag, and I crash a lot. If I close the rectangle, then it closes SL. I will then have to log back in. Here is one line of text.

    WARNING: LLViewerFetchedTexture::updateFetch: f2d7b6f6-4200-1e9a-fd5b-96459e950f94 Fetch failure, setting as missing, decode_priority 10011001.000000 mRawDiscardLevel 32767 current_discard -1

I asked in the group, but nothing worked. I just restarted my computer, and it is now worse. I now crash after logging on. Anybody have this same problem? What did you do?

Some in the Singularity group said to press ctrl, shift, and 4. I tried that, and it didn't work.

I realize that those who were using the SOMA streams are disappointed, but It really makes no sense for us to grip and vent here.  There many many other streaming alternatives.  Unless you want to vent to them directly, then let's try to move on.

I can play SomaFM in SL. I have it in my webtab. I can hear it play. I don't think anybody near me can hear it. But they can click on my profile, then webtab, and then click load. It will then play. You can even put it in your webtab.

SomaFM has a station devoted to that.

As an aside ... I can't understand all the hate and vitriol on this thread.  SomaFM is a small one-person operation basically and has done everyone a HUGE favour for many years simply by existing.  I've personally been streaming them in SL since I first joined in 2004.

Maybe we could give SomaFM a break?

Stop pretending they are some kind of big nefarious company?

Stop criticizing them for simply trying to exist?

Understand that they don't have a microscopic sliver of the resources that SL has?

I mean SomaFM could almost be described as SL's default sound experience.

SomaFM is what I used to have at my store. I had Secret Agent. I now have it in my webtab. So if anybody wants to listen to spy music, then put the SomaFM link in your webtab, or listen to it in my webtab. You will then be able to listen to it in SL.

liked their music, was considering paying if it meant having a url just at my house or something but it sounds like they gave us the bird and don't care about a solution

I have the url in my web tab, and it works. You can put it in your web tab, and it will work from there. I don't think others will be able to hear it, unless they click on your profile, and then click on your web tab.  After clicking on the web tab, click on load. It will then play. If you close your profile, then it will stop playing. If you minimize your profile, then it will keep on playing.

  13. A few days ago, I sent an email to SomaFM. It was about having a SL stream, that would have commercials. These commercials could come from business located in SL. I got a reply from Rusty a couple of days ago. Here is the reply.

    =====================================================================================================

Thank you for your feedback but we have no interest in being in the advertiser-supported radio business.

Now there is away for you to listen to Secret Agent. Click on my profile, then click on my webtab, then click load. You may need to adjust the volume. You could even copy the link, and put it in your webtab.

Like with every Microsoft release, I will wait until they get the kinks out.  I clung to 7 until i bought a new laptop which had 10, managing to skip over the nightmare 8 and don't even recall, was there ever a 9?.  My desktop stayed with 7 until things stopped running on it, when I finally caved and installed 10.  I'm still not thrilled with 10 and I don't even want to think about 11.

There was never a 9. That's  because Bill Gates can't count.

  15. I don't smoke, and am a never smoker. Now when I was in high school, there was a smoking area for the students. The 12th graders had their own area. And those from the 9th, to 11th grade had theirs. 7th, and 8th graders couldn't smoke. But I heard that some of the 8th grade girls smoked in the girls bathroom. They would sit on the bathroom sink, and  end up breaking the bathroom sink. Not sure if that part was true, but it was something I had heard about, when I was in the 10th grade.

If you walked by the teachers lounge, you could smell cigarette smoke.

  16. I have a partition on my computer. On one partition, I have Windows 10. On the other one, I have Linux Mint. On the Linux Mint, I have some virtual machines. Most are Windows 10. But I have one Windows XP VM. The XP one won't go on the internet. So I don't use it. I have the Singularity viewer on Windows 10, and Linux Mint. I have been on SL with a VM, but it was laggy.

  17. I got it fixed. Yesterday, I got a can of compressed air, and cleaned out the vent. This morning, I started thinking it might be a problem with the software for the graphics. So I talked to a Linden today, and I asked him how to remove the driver for the graphics. He told me how. After I removed both drivers, I then restarted the computer. It now works. I was able to get on, but didn't stay long. Fixing to turn off the computer.

  18. I'm going to get the can of compressed air tomorrow. Haven't been back on Linux Mint today. I white listed everything. Even Slplugin. Still didn't work. Anybody know what the problem might be? I installed some updates on Friday, and thats when I couldn't get SL to load. I uninstalled the updates, thinking that might work. But even that didn't work. Each time I click on Singularity, a popup come of saying loading Singularity, the detecting hardware, and then some other words come up. After that nothing. It just goes off the screen.

I even did admin privileges, and it still didn't work.

  19. I restarted my computer, and still nothing. I checked the firewall. I got Singularity whitelisted. Even did the inbound rules, and outbound rules. I got on this morning, but can't get on now. Each time I click on it, it says detecting hardware, and then it might say fluffing texture cache. Then it goes off. So it is not loading. Other times, there would be some other word, instead of fluffing texture cache. The drivers look to be ok. Late this morning, when I was fixing to get off, my screen went black.

I couldn't see anything. I pressed every but. Nothing happened. I then pushed the power button, and the computer went off. I then turned the computer back on. Everything looked ok, so I turned it off. I didn't try to get back on SL until 5;30 PM ET. But the viewer wouldn't load. Now I'm going to bed.

  20. I use Singularity Beta. The latest one.  My graphics card is AMD R7 Graphics. On a Dell laptop. I haven't updated any drivers. When I click on Singularity,  it says loading Singularity, then detecting hardware, and then it goes off. Its not on the screen, or on my task manager. I did work on the Windows defender some. White listing Singularity. Still not working. I haven't restarted it yet. I did about 5 hours ago. But that was before I white listed Singularity.
