And what I find strange is there are alredy mechanism in place to not even trumatize users by altering their names by the following: 1. SL already has a mechanism in place to create unique user logins, OUR EMAIL ADDRESS! 2. By making emails the login there would be no need to mess with Current User Names. 3. Allow NEW USERS @ Sign up to just Type in a name they choose. If available it registers. 4. Make A THIRD OPTION over avatar head for DISPLAY NAME. 5. Make USE NAME, GROUP TAG & DISPLAY NAME be able to turn on and off at User Wish 6. Make it Manatory that USER MUST wear either SL NAME or DISPLAY Name at any given time. By using these steps you will accomlish what you wish to accomplish LINDEN. a. Creating a New Login system not tied to user name. b. Adding Display Names to SL SOLELY for YOUR reason Stated previously. c. You will NOT disrupt the entire grid as both sides will be happy These solutions shows that you do care about the approximatley 1/4 million people that log into "SECOND LIFE" on a daily basis and the many of us opposed to having our user named reduced to nothing more than two lowecase words and a dot. nothing short of the systematic devaluation of your loyal cients in your attempts to prepare for not "GURANTEED" USERS but for "POTENTIAL" ones. You will also be able to appease the new comers who for role play and other purposes can have thier names over thier heads. Now if any business person were to basically disinfranchise thier current cutomers because they wanted to change thier business practices in hopes of attracting new ones...Im sure we all know the outcome of such a thing. HERE ARE MY DIRECT QUESTIONS FOR EACH SECTION YOU HAVE BELOW. Display Names Enhancements Having taken on board the concerns, here are the changes that I have asked the team to make in response to your input so far: We will change the default behaviour to show both the Display Name and the unique Username if the two names do not match. If they do match, we will show just one (Display Name). Residents can still change this behaviour in preferences. QUESTION: This is a good Idea to show both the Unique User Name bleow and the Display Name Above but you say that the USER can change this in their Preferrences. Can you please explain exactly what options they will have to change. Will it be to turn off the USER NAME and only view the DISPLAY NAME or visa Versa? Increase the visibility of the Username throughout the interface. As the Usernames are unique to each account we’ll make this more prominent in the Profile and elsewhere so that you can easily check who someone is. We’ll also label the two names clearly in the Profile so that it’s obvious what they are. QUESTION: We already knew about User Profile as being the only location to show TRUE USER NAMES but now can you please tell me Exactly where ELSEWHERE other than the Profile will you be showing the Users TRUE IDENTIY? We will make it more consistent so that where you need to see both both names, you will. QUESTION: Can you please give us examples as to where there will be more consistency in showing both USER & DISPLAY Names? Improvements to chat so that you can see username if you wish to and so that chat logs include notification of any display name changes by anyone present. QUESTION: Why is this option a WISH TO OPTION. Why is it not Manditory. All the marketing in the world will not help New users and Some old know they can turn this feature on and off. As often happens with password creation, we will require Residents that are changing their Display Name to enter it twice, to ensure they do not misspell it and end up stuck with a name they can’t change for a while. QUESTION: Having Users spell their name correctly twice is standard but you say so they dont get stuck with a name they cannot change for a while. Exaclty how long is a WHILE? Have You reconsidered the weeky DISPLAY NAME change option to now possilby mothly...ect.? We’re looking to add a simple one-click way to copy a Display Name to your clipboard - because unicode can be incredibly tough to type. QUESTION: Will you be able to use this feature to copy someone elses name so can use it as your own display name?
