  1. Nicecast works very well. I have used iTunes, Ultramixer VirtualDJ and Mixxx for music sources. If you want to talk over the music, Nicecast offers a voiceover ducking feature that drops the music level so your voice can be heard (but if you use iTunes and pause the music, all audio stops including voiceover, so you must play music continuously. I haven't tried that with ultramixer, VirtualDJ or Mixxx). I use a Griffin iMic USB audio interface so i can route Ultramixer, VirtualDJ or Mixxx out and into an external audio mixer (I use a Sampson MDR6 - $99) to mix voice over audio from more than one source, like a CD player or another computer. The mixer feeds the computer through the Griffin iMic and feeds Nicecast. This setup works very well. If also use two computer, one for SL and one for music, so an SL crash doesn't affect the music.
  2. That's just it - in VWR 1 it only took ONE MOUSE CLICK to play only the parcel audio stream and no other media streams. In VWR 2 it takes several mouse clicks in addition to the mouse hover to accomplish the same thing. One vs. several-a step forward?
  3. What do you mean get used to superior interfaces? I can't get used to something that doesn't work!!
  4. One of my avatar friends is a female avatar who refuses to use voice. She is always accused of being a male in RL because of that. She has a good reason not to use voice - it breaks the "wall" between her RL and her fantasy SL. Her avatar certainly doesn't look "male created" so I believe her.
  5. Looks like many people were NOT running fine with VWR 2: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/EXP-687 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/DNS-PROBLEMS/qaq-p/838759/comment-id/6440#M6440 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-25607 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-25626 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/EXP-772 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-24868 The Google DNS Server "workaround" solved my problem. LL mentions that as a "workaround". Where is the fix?
  6. WOW! This seems to have done the trick. I didn't get the DNS not resolving message, I got the message that something had gone wrong. I added the two DNS servers in System Preferences and, voila!, I logged in, and the other viewers weren't as laggy, either. Funny that the Lindens on JIRA duty don't talk to each other, especially about Mac problems.
  7. What "more" button? I see one button that starts ALL media and one button that will stop audio streaming but leave all other media playing. I saw a store one time that had almost a dozen different prims playing shared media, all at once, plus an audio media stream, all started by that one "play" button. Never went back and didn't spend any L$ there.
  8. Does VWR 2 need that much more bandwidth than any other viewer? VWR 2 is the only viewer that won't log in.
  9. Yeah, the suggestion from Linden Labs was "Check your local network". Three different computers could log in with every viewer except LL VWR 2. I even connect my "main SL" computer directly to my modem, bypassing my router with no change in results. Sounds to me like my local network is good and VWR 2 is bad.
  10. Do ya think it could be because I abandoned my mainland and dropped my Premium membership back in April??
  11. I am comparing one computer 's ability now compared to about five weeks ago. It used to run any viewer I downloaded, even two at a time. After deleting ALL viewers and reinstalling one at a time, I can not run VWR 2. And I have tried the last four releases of VWR 2.
  12. VWR 2.8.3, 2.8.2, 2.8.1 and 2.8.0 have recently failed to log in any of my avatars. I have been able to log in with VWR 1.23, Snowglobe, Kirsten's, Phoenix, firestorm, Rainbow and OnRez. My BRAND NEW computer will not log in with VWR 2. I am fed up. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-26560 http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/SUP-4586 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E72vAPtkWA

  17. I have two Mac minis, a 2.26GHz and a brand new 2.4GHz, both Intel Core 2 duos. VWR 2.8.3, 2.8.2, 2.8.1 and 2.8.0 will NOT log me in. I CAN log in with LLVWR 1.23, Snowglobe, Firestorm, Phoenix, Kirstens, Rainbow and OnRez. The JIRA folks told me to check my local network. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-26560
  18. Roughly 80% of the places I have LMs for aren't there anymore. When I visit the other 20% I don't see any huge crowds, if there is anybody there at all.

And back then some fanboys already had lots of great ideas with it - haven't seen any in the meantime that put any value in Shared Media at all. After all, it's just another usesless feature in the list of useless crap: Web profiles, the Facebookization, a viewer that disrespects all principles of UI design guidelines, coding guidelines and customer whishes, Mesh... I haven't figured out why I want to watch shared media. Plus VWR 2 has only one "play" button and it starts ALL media. What a mess that is. And the latest VWR 2 won't run on my computer that used to run it. And my BRAND NEW computer won't run VWR 2 either. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-26560 Between my three computers that I have used for SL, they run al viewers except VWR 2. I can still run OnRez! But something happened to my main SL computer and now it's super laggy on any viewer I try. http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/SUP-4586 My best Sl experience, even today, is still with VWR 1.
  20. Marigold Devin wrote: ... Explain "Firestorm ghosted my avatar", because there have been no ghosted avatars since 6th March 2011. ..... When I log in with Firestorm, my avatar is a bunch of red fuzzy dots. I have never seen my avatar in Firestorm. I have not been able to log in with LL's VWR 2 since July 6. The best running VWR (and this is on my new 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac) is LL's VWR 1.23. I had a lot of fun DJing in SL. I even opened my own club. But those days are over now.
  21. Marigold Devin wrote: That's just familiarity breeding contempt. A lot of us go through the same stages in SL. However, I'm betting that the majority of new residents feel exactly like we did when we first joined three or so years ago; full of anticipation and excitement, that first shocking experience of being asked "are you male/female in real life", so many new people to meet, places to go to, things to try out, etc etc. Take a break, a week or two, install Firestorm, come back brighter. Marigold, I did take a break. It was a little over two weeks near the end of June. I downloaded Firestorm and tried to log in. It wouldn't. LL's VWR 2 wouldn't log in. In fact, after installing Firestorm and updating Phoenix, no SL viewer of any generation would run SL at all. LL's VWR 2 would not log in and the viewers that did just sat there. I went back to my old computer that is below the minimum specs now and could log in and run SL well enough to do what I wanted. I just bought a new computer strictly for my home theatre and reluctantly installed Firestorm, LL VWR 2 and LL VWR 1. LL VWR 2 still won't log in. Firestorm ghosted my avatar. LL VWR 1 ran the best I have ever experienced SL in three years. But I still doubt that I will buy any land and reopen my club that I closed in February.
  22. When I joined Second Life about three years ago, it was a fantasy world where I could be whoever/whatever I wanted to be and nobody cared. Nobody could hear me and all they knew about me was what I revealed. Then voice came along and female avatars without voice were accused of being males in real life. Now SL seems to be becoming an extension of Real Life with not much chance at being anonymous anymore with all the profile pages on the web, etc.. I can't be anonymous anymore with out making excuses. Second Life just isn't as appealing as it was three years ago. And VWR 2 won't log in anymore, anyway.
  23. I did an OS reinstall and update. I ran Applejack. I installed LL VWR 2.8.1. I can't log in with VWR 2. Firestorm won't load textures or let me move my avatar ghost. I already use Facebook and Skype so I guess I don't need Second Life anymore.
  24. I read about tweaks for all operating systems. I'm using the latest 10.6.8 on a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac mini. All SL viewers ran great through June of this year. I even ran two at a time. Now all SL viewers run like a car with four flat tires. I have removed all files ever mentioned for all the viewers I had installed and tried one a time with the same poor results. As for any other programs not related to SL I see no change in performance. As a side note, my dual 1.8GHz G5 PPC Mac still runs VWR1 well enough I can build and ride a motorcycle. In a Firestorm JIRA it has been suggested that I do an OS reinstall.
