  1. Heya folks,

I'm looking for some examples of objects that you've created as a replacement for an existing prim/sculpt object. I've seen some which were really cool, but we need some that will make an impact on those creators and residents who might not be as technically astute as you all are.

If you have something, please send me a screenshot of the mesh object side by side with the prim/sculpty.

    thanks - we're getting close

  2. Thanks all for taking a look and responding.

One thing to note is that there is no advantage to getting all the questions 'right'. We only require that you review the information, there is no way to fail.

  3. You may have already noticed the mesh enablement tutorial on aditi.

If not, well, here: https://secondlife.aditi.lindenlab.com/my/account/mesh-landing.php, so now you know. :-)

The primary purpose of the tutorial is to help those residents who may not know the ins and outs of Intellectual Property (or those that *think* they do but might have some mis-information). It's not intended as legal advice.

Given that its on Aditi, it's not finalized, so we'd love to get your feedback on the questions and answers.

note: Obviously this is on aditi so it will have no effect on your agni account.

    Cheers, Charlar

  4. Chodai - yes, many people do know about the subsidy, so I don't mean to tell you what you already know, but it doesn't take a lot of FUD to throw mesh newcomers into a tailspin.

And, your analogy is a good one, although I wouldn't say we were taxing mesh, We're just not hiding the true costs.

  5. A common misconception is that the prim count associated with a given prim or sculptie has any direct relation to it's actual effect on our systems or the rendering engine. It does not.

What you see with with prim equivalent values is an attempt to better match the actual weight to the prim count - as Runitai said. We're still tuning and tweaking, so examples and use cases are exactly what we need.

  6. This is a little off-topic, but after reading this thread I just wanted to...

thank all of you contributing to this thread as well as those participating in this forum and the mesh beta program for the mature, thoughtful tone of your communications.

You've had a tremendous positive impact on mesh development, and the manner that you help those who want to learn is both admirable and a testament to the core nature of Second Life.

  7. We announced our rollout timeframe here; we're hard at work tweaking and fixing bugs, many of which are being found by our intrepid beta users.

Check here for more links and references, including the User Group

There are also some interesting conversations here on the forum which can help get you up to speed.

    Agenda for next meeting: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Content_Creation/Mesh_Import_User_Group

Note: Next weeks meeting would fall on July 4, which is a holiday in the US. As we approach rollout for Mesh, we're all swamped with work, so we're going to have to skip next week and meet on July 11.

Please stay active on the forums!

  9. Thanks everyone who's already jumped in to help us.

Please be aware that the viewer and sim builds are both 'experimental', meaning there will be bugs.

Also, and especially, behavior between the experimental regions (Sandboxs 20, 21,27, 28) and all other regions is unknown and not actually important. The same goes for the experiemental viewer on non-experimental regions.

    Thanks, and please keep testing/reporting!

  10. Hello Beta Testers!

We're pushing forward for our update of the mesh asset format! We could use a hand testing our latest progress, however, before we roll it out to all of the mesh regions.

Please grab a viewer from the link below and start trying to pile on uploading meshes on one of the listed regions.

    Viewer:

    http://automated-builds-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/hg/repo/mesh-asset-deprecation/latest.html

    Regions:

    Mesh Sandbox 20

    Mesh Sandbox 21

    Mesh Sandbox 27

    Mesh Sandbox 28

Upload new mesh assets, verify they can rez, trade them, modify them, etc. We're particularly concerned to make sure that you are able to get collada files onto the grid and rez them properly. If you notice any bugs/failures please file a jira task and attach your secondlife.log from the session where you tried to upload the mesh. Also feel free to post a reply here. We're going to be watching the results of testing closely; if it goes well we'll push out to all the mesh regions by the end of the week. If we encounter problems we may have to push back to next week.

Also, here's a link to the new asset format spec: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mesh/Mesh_Asset_Format

    Thanks for your assistance!

  11. Dear Mesh Beta Users,

We're deploying a new build to a number of regions - Mesh Sandbox (20, 21, 27, 28) - on Aditi. Content on those regions will be returned and will not be rezzable there because of changes in our code. You'll need to re-upload the meshes.

Caveat: We may have to break it again as we're doing this for the purposes of testing and may find bugs.

After we stabilize on those regions, this deploy will be propagated across all mesh regions.

This is the deploy we've mentioned in the last few usergroup meetings.  We're sorry for the lost of content, but it's necessary for us to move toward final code.

    Signed,

    Your friendly Mesh Development Team
