  1. Not sure in SLv2, but all other viewers, right click the object and choose Edit. The window that opens will have how many prims the object contains.

Under World>About Land>Objects, it will tell you how many prims you have available.

All land has a limited number of prims it can support, generally 117 for every 512sq.m. The Linden Home does not count against that.

  2. Let me get this straight...

You downgraded your account from Premium to Basic?

You did not cancel or remove the billing/payment information that was on file?

You did not update the billing/payment information that was on file?

You did not double check that the information they have is up to date?

And you are angry that Linden Lab acted on the information they have?

I've seen Linden Labs accused of many things in these forums, but psychic isn't one of them.

Get a grip. Sell the linden dollars back, up date your payment info and buy them again.

judging by the last post things might have changed ?

Nope, nothing's changed, just had an extra $20 that I could afford to tie up while things resolve and settle down. I want to see if this particular reloadable card (MasterCard Freedom) will be acceptable to LL and PayPal. If so, it would remove the 8day waiting period that it takes for funds to transfer from my bank to PayPal.

If it works out, great, waiting period eliminated.

If it doesn't work out, oh well, lessoned learned and all it cost me was lack of access to $20 for a week or two.

  4. I don't know who told you that you need a second payment method with PayPal, I don't, never needed one.

I upgraded to Premium with PayPal alone.

Since then, I have been trying to add a MC reloadable card to my LL and my PayPal accounts, but things are still sitting at the processing confirmation and verification stage

  5. Not knowing how crucial portability is, or what your current system specs are, I have to say, if you are using your laptop away from home for work/business, don't get another laptop. You're current laptop will likely last you for quite some time, so get a tower. You will save money in the long run when upgrading. After all, its less expensive to add RAM or a better graphics card than it is to replace the whole system.

  6. I don't know where, but where ever it is, it certainly isn't earning you any interest.

I have to wonder as to just why PayPal takes so long to process a private person's transactions when all sorts of other online businesses don't. And don't tell me its because they aren't a bank. Neither is MasterCard or Visa. Or the utility copmpanies. Or teh insurance companies. As for needing the time to verify the funds are there, are they using carrier pigeons instead of the internet? After all, wouldn't the process be person uploads funds using internet (5 minutes). Then PayPal contacts bank to initiate the transfer to their bank using internet (another 5 minutes).

Oh, wait, I know what it is ... when the data crosses the US border, it gets stopped to have its underwear searched by the TSA. Which takes 7 days, 23 hours and 50 minutes to complete.

I'm using PayPal as well. I want to get a reloadable MasterCard again, though. My thoughts being that I can use the MC card to add the funds to PayPal, in case LL doesn't accept whatever card I end up getting. Then I can send funds from my bank account to the MC reloadable, unlink PayPal from my bank account and link PayPal to the reloadable MC. That way, my PP account would remain verified and so keep PP as my payment method with LL.  I don't like giving someone, no matter how reputable, access to my bank account. I've seen way too many people get screwed by that. Utility payment gets taken out, then the insurance, then suddenly you have NSF charges because your account was a dollar or two short for covering that withdrawal for the car payment. I prefer to retain control of when and how much I pay out.

In the meantime, I'll have to be like you, patiently waiting for the funds to finish uploading to PayPal.

  8. I routinely wipe and re-install my OS, which is also Vista. Forgive me if I'm telling you things you've already done, but ...

Take the time to install ALL the Windows updates

Make sure you have all the latest drivers installed, especially graphics, but I've found that the CPU and BIOS should be updated, if available

Use a utility that let's you enable/disable start up programs. I prefer Glary Utilities for that as it will also -

Clean up and defrag your registry

Double the size of Windows' virtual memory/buffers

When you are at the SL log in page, edit your graphics preferences, including Hardware Options to disable the VBO (OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects)

Also, under Hardware Options, max the Texture Memory (MB) slider bar. This will end up resetting to the proper amount, which is about 50% of the RAM on your graphics card.

Once you are in SL, go to Advanced>Rendering and enable multiple threads

Next, Advanced>Debug Settings and set the VectorizeEnable to True, then set VectorizeSkin to True as well

There's likely more, but I hope that helps

  9. Look around in RL and all the self image stuff ... if you could have a weightlifter's body, wouldn't you? That said, I did edit my avatar to have broad shoulders, nice pecs and abs, tight buns, etc etc. In RL, I'm a few pounds under-weight and definitely out of shape Coming to SL means I don't spend tons of money on a gym in RL to look like a hunk

  10. Unless you need the mobility, I wouldn't get a laptop, I'd get a tower. The biggest problem with laptops is the cost to upgrade/replace components. For example, lets say you want to replace the graphics card on a laptop with something more powerful, you will spend the money for the new card, more money for the tech to do the work and spend the time for it to sit in the shop until they do the work, usually a few days to a week. Oh, and if they don't have the laptop sized graphics card in supply, you spend the time waiting for it to be shipped to the shop. With a tower, you spend the money for the graphics card, which is usually in stock on the shelf, remove the case, pull out the old card, plug in the new one and close it up, all in about 10 minutes. Don't know how to replace a graphics card? Get the neighbourhood geek to show you how.

Having now read some other posts giving prices, you can get a good quality tower for less than the cost of a laptop. My current tower cost me approx. CDN$500 (US$475), including the monitor, a year ago. Its a single core Athlon CPU running at 2.6Mhz, 1 Gb RAM, 160GB harddrive and a nVidia GeForce 6150SE with 512Mb RAM. Next month I iwll be replacing the current graphics card with the nVidia GeForce 9500 GT with 1GB DDR2 RAM for CDN$75 (US$71.25). I plan on adding to my system's RAM the month after.

Oh, and I would purchase online from a reputable dealer (my personal preference is Tiger Direct, but there are plenty of others). You'll get a much better deal.
