  1. Stopped by the track this morning to finalize my settings for the car, just in case I get to race later.  Figured I'd grab a screenshot while I was there.  I've stayed somewhat consistent in my overall appearance lately;  other than the occasional hairstyle change, this is the longest I've gone with a single look in quite some time.   xD

  2. Redecorated my parcel again yesterday;  now hanging around and discussing with my mechanic what we're going to do to the car next.  :D

Wearing the "Military Mesh Shirt" from GAS - it's not a Slink size, but the small classic av size fits me well enough and it's a favorite for everyday wear.  Also got the Trekker cargo pants from Rebellion.  These are two frequent items you'll see me using.

The av on the right is my original avatar, once retired, now hangs around to entertain people at my place.  He's using the nardcotix body, which has picked up a respectable amount of clothing support in recent months.  He finally has a pair of jeans that fit him properly  (from Justice, if I recall).

A great deal depends on how you want to drive. The majority of cars on the market currently use the same scripts (ACS) which aren't ideal for region crossings. Of these cars, I'd recommend Cindy Henusaki's C.H.C., Aikioto and Hotaru. Those three companies share two regions that are right next to each other and you can test drive the cars' handling and region crossing there. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Grand Palaccio/213/71/1501

Surplus Motors also uses the same scripts - their handling within a region is usually very good and make dedicated circuit racing cars. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Camaro/75/111/24

Amariah Francis uses the ACS scripts and has very affordable cars that are usually well set-up and test-drivable. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Gama/213/228/36

I agree with ChinRey (don't get used to it) on GEMC and Arton Rotaru's cars as well. GEMC now sells out of the Prototype region, which also has a number of good makers of more specialized commercial vehicles. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Prototype/84/135/24

My personal favorite cars for long distance driving are from a group of Japanese makers who use different scripts that appear to be much lighter for region crossings than the ACS scripts. Makers include Manji, TNK Works, SUMI (Sumire Papp) and M's R and D (Myuki Mills.) Haru's cars are works of art to look at but aren't the best on a region crossing. Manji and TNK demos are available at Haru. SUMI and Myuki Mills sell out of Burns.

Movita uses similar or the same scripts and their cars are often very reasonably priced, though sometimes it's a "pot luck" situation because their quality can be uneven.  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lusca/183/53/59

    Fantastic quality post, thanks.

Myuki & her friends have also hosted a Mainland Rally a few times over the years, I took part in last year's and really enjoyed it.  The car Myuki made for it was given as a prize for completing it, and it is my favorite car for mainland driving.

I think I want to try to make an avatar that looks like me... I feel like I'd be going against the norm lol. It might be fun to attempt though.

I had a friend who pulled this off years ago in the classic avatar days - she sent me some photos of herself in RL and the resemblance was incredible.

  5. Having a "normal" guy shape was my goal too.  After doing some reading and checking out demos of bodies, I went with Slink, and I have no complaints.

Paired with a good body skin applier (I'm using L'etre, and then Stray Dog for the head) you can get a physically fit appearance without going overboard.

Here's a current photo, but with my tattoo layer turned off (since it obscures some of the detail).

Honestly if options like this didn't exist I'm not sure I'd be using a mesh body at this point.  My av has always been an average/normal type of guy.

First time playing around with a mesh head.  I picked up the LAQ Bento Neve head before Christmas when it was on sale, but didn't try doing anything with it until this last weekend.  I haven't played around with make up too much yet.  I wanted to get the shape dialed in first, and then try other things out after I'm used to it and feeling fairly satisfied with the look.

Hey, that looks awesome and it's very much "you"  :)   Great job!
