  1. In answer to your question, no PIOF is not a true age verifier and can be subverted. Honestly though, the whole age verification for internet pornography cracks me up especially the laws in places like Texas because people are so worried about minors seeing sexual images but hey, let's not worry about minors going hungry and starving in the streets or minors having guns and shooting up schools.

If adult content's not allowed in a profile, then good god, LL sucks the ***** out of a cow's ass at enforcing it.

No offense, of course - I for one welcome negligence in that regard.

That again goes back to what I mentioned in one of my previous posts about interpretation. What you classify as adult content might not be the same things that I or LL classify as adult. ToS and Laws also tend to be open to interpretation because it's hard to define every situation one may encounter.

Example of my alt I use to primiarly look like my real life self if i could have the body i want. Which is the maiterya lara flat chest. Yes she is short because i am 5ft in reality so she is more like me except different hair color. I feel like with this situation that using my alt would cause more issues because of how young it looks. I'm 31 years old in real life and don't do anything adult with my alt.

That's the problem with rules and laws like this they are always open to someone's interpretation. If you ever were put in front of a jury then any lawyer worth his salt would be able to defend you and destroy the US law in the process. Technically speaking with the way the US law is written anyone posting their family beach photo on social media, where kids are in swimwear at the beach, could be interpreted as sexual in nature by someone.

I don't suppose we could also have 'micro regions' for us misanthropes who'd rather have a maximum of like, 5 visitors - with pricing going the other direction to match? ^_^

With virtual servers and AWS cloud based pricing this should be very doable for LL. However, the profit margins would be much smaller so the real question you have to ask is, why should they do this?

You can realistically expect this to be a "drop everything" priority for the marketplace team.

Wishlists are a core part of the platform and used extensively.

Yet here we are nearly two weeks later and it's still broken. I work for a Software company and "drop everything" priority aka. urgent issue means you have all hands on deck working to resolve the problem and it's usually resolved in a few days not two weeks. The code patch for urgent issues typically would be done in an off-cycle release aka. unscheduled maintenance and not something you would wait until your next weekly release cycle to deploy. Having said all of that I doubt LL views this issue as a "drop everything" urgent priority and rather views it as a medium priority that can be resolved in a normal sprint cycle.

In all honesty, I think it would be more of a magnet for trolls than a deterrent. Kind of like putting the name up in lights.

Some bored troll may be like, hey lets go see what's going on in here or lets go see who we can trigger.

It's not gonna stop them from doing it in General and it won't stop them from doing it there..

Trolls are gonna troll and haters gonna hate. You'll never truly stop them no matter what you do. I agree with you that creating a separate sub specific to the LGBTQ+ community is only going to be a sort of magnet for the trolls and haters to easily find posts to attack.

I like Sarah's view of history. My teachers would've considered it revisionist, but it's instructive to have another viewpoint.

Should we tell her that the Americas were colonized by more than just the Brits? For instance, the state I live in was never a part of the British Empire or its territories. California where LL is located was also never in British hands.

Why could Downing Street decide that all states would leave the EU, while the majority of Scots were against it?
Why was there a referendum years ago to get Scotland independent?
Why do they compete as one country in the Olympics?
They were as one nation member of the EU.
They are one country already with several states, IMHO.

It sounds as though we need to help free the Scots.

Here's something from the Tax Foundation:

    • In 2019, Americans will pay $3.4 trillion in federal taxes and $1.8 trillion in state and local taxes, for a total bill of over $5.2 trillion, or 29 percent of the nation’s income.

    • Americans will collectively spend more on taxes in 2019 than they will on food, clothing, and housing combined.

...and the USA is not the country that has the highest tax burden!

Why was it that we had that revolution, again?

Because those crazy British Red Coats wanted to tax the ever loving hell out of the Colonies without providing the Colonies with representation in Parliament.

    Went down. came back.

I am in the UK, and we have just had a third storm warning announced. I don't think that has anything to do with the problem, but I am seeing intermittent problems with internet sites, specific internet sites, not general. Something at my end would affect everything

This isn't a UK only issue. I'm in the US and it's been a hit or miss issue with secondlife.com site since around midnight PST last night.

You could do this. I think you might have to set SOME non-zero price, though. Then the parties could transfer an additional amount (presumably much larger) via PayPal or some other RL method. As Quistess points out, though, I would not want to accept the risk involved with this "workaround", unless both parties know each other in RL and have verifiable RL contact information.

By the way, the reason there is conflicting information on this is that, until fairly recently, you COULD transfer regions, using LL as the middleman, for $USD. LL removed this feature. They say it was for some technical bug they were working on, but I suspect that $USD for land will never return, because by making all transactions take place in $L, LL gets all those transaction and process credit fees.

Technical bug my butt. They want as many of the fees as they can get so yeah they'll force you to do it in L$ so then the buyer has to pay 7.5% to LL for buying L$, the seller has to pay 3.5% selling fee to LL to convert those L$ to USD$. If the seller then wants to use those USD$ out in the real world then they have to pay Tilia aka. LL a 5% process credit fee. So in essence, LL is getting at least 15% of the revenue in L$ and USD$ transaction fees alone from the simple sale and ownership transfer of a private region. It is funny how we have to pay to transfer a region in L$ but cannot pay for monthly region tiers to LL in L$.

Perhaps I shouldn't say this, but there is nothing stopping you from making transactions and agreements with another person using a 3rd party payment system like *cough*paypal*cough*.

True, you could agree to sale using some 3rd Party payment app outside of SL for everything except the Transfer Fee which is the only amount that the Lindens truly care about as it's their bread and butter. Personally I see nothing wrong with cutting them out of the double dipping on the actual sale transaction since they are already doing that with the Transfer fee.

Thanks Rowan, the problem is this is a nice quiet residential sim, and each resident owns their own parcel, and so controls their own access. On top of that, we do not allow ban lines, which would show up with those restrictions. For now, I am just monitoring who pops in, and the time and exact location where they appear. If I see the same name more than once, I may region ban them, but so far every occurrence has been a unique name.

I believe Rowan is referring to setting the access at the Region level rather than the Parcel level. If you do it at the Region level these bots can never TP into/Access the region unless they meet the requirements. Parcel level restrictions will add ban lines that only go up to about 800m and can be circumvented above that unless all Parcels in the region have the same access settings checked at which point it makes more sense for you as the Region owner to just make those settings on the Region level to get rid of the ban lines altogether.

same as at MP ...Linden's list of forbidden keywords/names is inscrutable ..even on the forums there's one..

This is apparently the correct answer since the word Goddess is somehow on the list of forbidden and banned words for a land name/region name now. The other answer by Rolig is nice but I also tried different variations of Goddess World, such as Goddess World 1, Goddess World 2, Goddess World I, Goddess World II and all of them were labeled as forbidden. I finally spoke with a Linden support person and was told that Goddess is indeed on the forbidden words list now for a region or estate name. Knowing regex expressions and how they work I've actually found a way around that though so all is good.

The Goddess World region went off line on 28 August 2011.  The name cannot be re-used.

Ok makes sense for the region name aspect which I actually wasn't doing but not so much for the Estate Name which is what I was trying to use. Also, what doesn't make sense is why 'SL is Poop' or 'SL is Crap' are deemed acceptable when the naming requirements says the use of 'SL' in any fashion is forbidden in the name. Seems the Lindens forgot to properly program their regex for the region and estate name inputs.

Nevada will give Biden their votes.  Those 6 are all he needed and everything else is just gravy.  It was a tossup on what states would finalize first.   And Georgia most definitely is still not DECIDING anything.  They are very likely headed into a recount given their current figures show only a 0.2% difference.

You, my dear, are still the one that apparently could not manage to even read her own state's website regarding the facts on the election in your state - even after I gave you the links you needed.

The Nevada 6 giving Biden the win depended upon which news agency you where looking at because many never called and still haven't called Arizona for Biden because the vote is still outstanding there and Biden's lead has been shrinking there every time they update the results. Pennsylvania did give him the win though because they have 20 electoral college votes and those put Biden with at least 273 EC votes depending again upon which news agency you followed.

There has been tons of beatchin over the last few months about Trump not wearing a mask out in public...... and I have agreed with those complaints.   Biden and Harris have both also commented on it.

Thus I was totally blown away by this picture in the news tonight -- currently front page of https://www.usatoday.com/

    image.thumb.png.ab616932732f5f66e11c624e952cab39.png

We've also yet to hear him condemn all these large gatherings of strangers across the US today where people have been seen on video drinking hooch from the same cups and not wearing their masks while hugging strangers. But you know Trump supporters are the only one's that are irresponsible. The set of double standards is why we're so divided in the first place. If he wants to unify us then he can start by condemning the actions of his own supporters today but I won't hold my breath for that because he needs these same people 4 years from now.
