  1. Actually, what's happening is that the sun is circling about 20 degrees above the horizon, right round the horizon, rather than rising in the East and setting in the West as it has for the last 12 years. This is true of a) the latest Firestorm viewer b) the latest official Linden Lab viewer c) the Linden Lab EEP release candidate viewer.

I am seeing this on FAERUN; other people here see it too.  I have World/Region Details/Environment using Day Cycle selected as always. When I try to select SL Default, I get this: http://prntscr.com/n1uw2a (Windlight settings couldn’t be applied: the Windlight settings were empty or not well-formed)

Rocko tried to advise but in the end, could only suggest using c) above: which makes no difference.

  2. Well, after 11 years in-world with my yummy old-style Neko skin, ears and tail, I've been persuaded to try mesh and am utterly confused by the possibilities. And the prices! I can't afford to make too many mistakes. Does any kind soul have the patience to advise me on which brands/makers/named products will allow me to achieve the following result:

    a) A mesh body that I can shape using Appearance mode if required, combined with a mesh head that allows me to reproduce my existing facial appearance. I have all 50 measurements noted down in an Excel spreadsheet and want to reproduce my likeness exactly (see the attachment); this is more important than the adjustability of the mesh body.

    b) Ability to use my existing non-mesh tail, which is animated and much better than anything I've seen in mesh animated or otherwise; ditto using my existing ears. Both ears and tail were made by Jungle Voodoo. Are there any good mesh Neko skins that look like fur; or could I wear my existing skin, which is also by Jungle Voodoo?

Don't want to put you to any trouble; just the names of suitable makers/stores that would outfit me for around L$5k or less would help. Thanks ever so much and Byeee!

  3. Dunno if this is the right place for this query, but I'll try.

Is there anywhere I can find out what the longest-continuously-owned-by-one-person private island is called?

Just an idle query, really. You see, I recently visited the sim on which my first avatar rented some land... over 10 years ago... and it made me all nostalgic and curious. It all looked very different, as you'd imagine. (All except one road running through the middle of the whole sim!)

And it got me wondering. Had the place changed hands many times; not so much the individual parcels, but the whole island? Hence my query: what's the average landholding tenure; what's the oldest one anyone knows of?

  4. Faerun is a mediaeval/fantasy sim that holds an event every Saturday at 1pm SL time. Event contents and prizes are organised by myself; what he DJ has to do is to provide music for our dancing, which is always enormously appreciated! Typical attendance is around 18 people and this generates an average of c.L$5600 in tips per month. (That's based on figures collected over the last 7 years.)

I'd like to discuss the house cut, a guaranteed minimum for you as DJ, and the kind of music played: R&R, Blues, Easy... we're very eclectic. Sometimes we do something crazy like celebrate Burns Night with Scottish; or Big Band Swing; or 1940s Country; 60s or 70s... so we're open to suggestions that support the event theme as agreed in advance between myself, and you as the DJ.

Please contact me, Christi Maeterlinck, for more details. Byeeee!

  6. In this day and age of sculpts and mesh builds, someone somewhere out there has surely made what I’m looking for.

I own an old Ashira Legien Sculpted Cuddle bed but the modern replacement does’t add much to the old one and has had some problematic reviews.

So I’m looking for a  duvet or well-quilted bed cover that is scripted to be pulled down when not in use; can be lain on; or can be pulled OVER the occupant's avatars with their shape showing underneath it. It doesn’t have to have a zillion sex poses; just two sleeping people under the covers would do. (The rest could be added later using a sex anim kit if I could be bothered but these days, all I want is a quiet cuddle and a good night’s sleep...)

I guess you can get this kind of thing by buying a complete bed set, but I have a mediaeval 4-poster bed I built myself so it seems crazy to pay big money and then mod it just to throw away everything but the mattress/bedcovers/duvet.

Hope someone out there can help.

  7. Okay. For the benefit of ayone else with this problem (and JIRAS SVC-7909 and SVC 8026 suggest that there are many of us), here's the current situation and a possible solution.

I restarted the sim; I asked to be moved to a known 'safe' server. No luck: the problem persisted. The only way I could enable land group members to build was by giving 'Everyone' visiting the island the power to build and to rezz. Not an ideal solution.

Then someone suggested that I check the ownership settings of all the partitions on my island. Some were set to me, and some to the land group. This had never been a problem in the past: so long as land group members were wearing their group badge, they could rezz new prims and build, regardless of who owned the land, me or the group. It _was_ a problem now, caused by the bug.

And the problem disappeared as soon as I set _all_ the partitions to ownership by group.

You might find this works for you too.

    Christi.

  8. It's just happened today: people who have the land badge for my sim, which gives them rights to fly, and to rezz stuff on the island, can no longer do so. I've just submitted a JIRA cos Concierge told me it was a bug, and one that other sim owners are experiencing.

Seems more like a major system problem and not a 'bug' as such. Anyway, has anyone else experienced this please? (It occurs regardless of which viewer is being used.) And of course if any kind soul out there knows how to fix it, even better!

Thanks ever so much and Byeeee!

  9. Thank you so much, everyone who replied.

Your kindness in a) identifying the actual cause and b) teaching me how to search for it in future should the problem re-occur, has lifted a wory off my shoulders. Not so much the rezzed object as the horrible sound that went with it!

  10. Someone is rezzing a spider, and a broomstick, in front of me. I keep Returning it; and Deleting it; to no avail.

It keeps appearing in my Inv, and on the ground in  front of me; and reappearing even after I have deleted it. Every 15 seconds or so.

I have gone to a no-scripts sim and removed all my attachments and clothes... it didn't appear BUT... it continued to appear back in my own sim as reported by a friend.

The objects have a name of creator; myself as owner; and someone else as most recent owner. I have banned that person from my sim.

None of this helps. When I tried to write an abuse report, the name of the person who appears as the last owner could not be found by the search function so that I could fill in the 'abuser's name' field: even though EXACTLY that name was on the object, as last owner. I had to use 'Governor Linden' as a workaround.

Can anyone please suggest what I might do to deal with all this, while I await a response from LL? You would inform me, and conceivably help other people who encounter the same problem, if you had a way forward to suggest.

    Many thanks!

    Christi Maeterlinck

  11. Office accommodation is available on Faerun, a mediaeval/fantasy-themed sim. This office is in a busy marketplace and could be used as a shop. Through a doorway is an exquisite small bedroom decorated in japanese style with access to a private verandah looking over to fields, a hill, and a vineyard.

Last used by a Zen monk running a security business (go figure), this offers an inexpensive way to have somewhere to live as well as work. You get full access and rezz rights for your weekly rent of L$200, 150 prim allowance and more if needed. Contact Christi Maeterlinck or Anneke1 Aabye in the first instance. Byeee!

  12. Gavin,

If its any consolation, the same happened to me:

    a) Linden tells me my a/c has been suspended since someone has tried to buy lots of Lindens through my a/c

    b) my bank tells me they have refused payment on my CC: which presumably is what led to a)

    c) Linden are unclear in telling me about how it happened that someone got hold of my CC details

    d) But when helping me to change my arrangements, they suggested I use the word "password' as my temporary password, which must be the grossest breach of security ever!

I've now made new arragements, and I suggest that everyone else does too. I won't go into the details, but think it out for yourselves: a system in which, even if your avatar password or CC number get compromised, there is never more than a trivial amount of RL cash at stake in any arrangement known to Linden.

Then all you have to do is a virus-scan to see if anyone has placed keylogger software into your machine. But, dear Gods, if that has happened, then there's more than an SL account at risk.

    Funny old world.

  13. Earlier today I reported on a difficulty which consists of

    a) being thrown off SL; b) being unable to re-enter; c) being given an interim password by Phone Support; d) getting online using the new password; e) changing the new password to my old one; then changing it to a new one that only I know

    f) someone tries to buy L$ on the Linden exchange using the credit card details that Linden has for me to pay my monthly tier, hitting my bank account for £1500: about US$1900? g) I change my password to an entirely new one.

My bank prevented the money being taken, but I have been put to the trouble of having to have a new credit card issued which will take a week.

TONIGHT the same process has happened AGAIN!!!!: all of step a), repeated exactly, except of course that I have created an entirely new password at step e).

It took a while to get onto phone support, as the Linden website was not recognising my step e) password! I had to go in to the Linden website from scratch, as if I were a newbie. I asked WHY OH WHY was the process happening again, and was told that the system didn't like me reverting to my old password at step e). It scrambled the old one, and the new one I created, so that I couldn't get in at all.

I now have a new password, that I created, that lets me in. Is the LInden system going to do the same again to me tomorrow?

  14. Yes, I take the point about Paypal not being perfect. Having said that, when someone took out 2 x £300 from my bank via Paypal (how??? Paypal never managed to explain) they were very prompt to help, identify the culprit, and repay my money.

One sort of answer is only ever to keep small amounts accessible via Paypal, making the funds available only when you're making/expecting a transaction.

  15. Hmmm...

Well, contact Support by phone (Live chat doesn't operate at weekends) on one of the numbers listed here:

    https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/

and then do what I did...

INCLUDING CHANGING YOUR PASSWORD TO SOMETHING ONLY YOU KNOW, ASAP1

    *****

I've just finished speaking to Linden phone support again.

They say that the reason for my not being able to get online yesterday is that there's a scam, originating out of Italy, in which someone is using people's ISP address codes (you know, the 1.193. etc etc codes associated with one's internet account), probably by using a bot to generate them? I don't really understand...

... but that the Linden security system IS catching this, and logging people out until it's investigated.

    *****

That accounts for why I was logged out yesterday, and may or may not be the reason that you were.

But, as I say: contact Linden, get access back, and then CHNAGE YOUR PASSWORD TO SOMETHING ONLY YOU KNOW. And then change it regularly!

  16. Something most peculiar happened yesterday.

I was thrown off SL and couldn't get back in: account suspended. I phoned Lindens and was told that some sort of glitch had occurred and that I should log back in, using the word 'Password' as the password.

I did this okay; then I logged out immediately and changed the password from 'Password'; to what it used to be.

This morning I got an e-mail saying that an attempt to buy Linden dollars for my account via the Lindex page of the SL website has failed.

I've immediately changed my password again. But the moral of the story seems obvious:

    a) no-one knew my original password

    b) there must be many people who know that the Linden advice when there's a glitch is to change one's password to 'Password'

    c) one of them must have tried to buy Lindens using that as a password.

Therefore: if ever you are supplied with a password by Linden: use it, and then change it immediately!

AND LINDEN LABS: FOR PETE'S SAKE USE A FRESH TEMPORARY PASSWORD EACH TIME!!!

  17. Thanks Madeleine: I did just what you suggested, and that's how I identified the problem as being something to do with V1.23.

Sappa, when it comes to old viewers, you know I'm running V1.19 on an old iMac under OS10.3 LOL? It works, tho' movements are slooow.

Back on the MacBook Pro (which is 2.66 GHz, memory maxed at 4GB....  I hate the look of the official V2 and V3, and have been using Firestorm Beta Mesh for a while now: you can customise it nicely, to look and feel a bit like V1.23, by following the suggestions in:

    and

    http://www.youtube.com/user/phoenixviewersl

So, yes, at the moment it looks like goodbye to V1.23. What a shame. For the moment I'm using Imprudence when I can't find commands cos theyre in 'the wrong place' in Firestorm!

  18. I have a long-running software corruption fault and seem to have narrowed it down to some sort of interaction between SL viewer and web readers. If you have the patience to read this, I'd greatly appreciate any comments.

A MacBook Pro running OS10.7.2 Lion; problem appeared under OS10.6 Snow Leopard and persists.

    Problem:

    1. An irregular one. Now and again the cursor freezes; unfreezes on a mouseclick accompanied sometimes by the spinning beachball cursor; the software onscreen is unresponsive; then the screen freezes. Sometimes it then goes black although the computer is still on. Recovery is via on-of-key shutdown and reboot.

    2. It seems to be associated with moments when the graphics processor switches from the slow to the fast processor, but not consistently so.

Solutions, none of which remove the intermittent fault.

    1. Long hardware test off system instal discs shows no faults.

    2. Some disc permissions faulty but these repaired.

    3. All software caches cleared manually.

    4. New logic board installed (!!! Yup- Apple policy under guarantee.)

    5. Hard disc erased and restored: fresh copy of OS installed from system disc and upgraded to latest, OS10.7.2 Lion. Existing data and appplications reinstalled from backup. So the corruption isn't in the OS.

    6. New User created.

    a) Second Life 1.23 copied from existing user to new user apps folder and used. Noproblem.

    b) Fresh copy of Google Chrome installed from Google website into new user apps folder using Safari. Noproblem.

    c) Fresh copy of Hippo downloaded from website and placed in new user apps folder. Noproblem.

Note: t this point we have an uncorrupted OS, uncorrupted Hippo and a possibly corrupted copy of SL1.23. But they're running okay. No other apps or data reside in the new user folder.

Opened new, uncorrupted Google Chrome for the first time, after running Second Life viewer then Hippo viewer. Freeze, as at 1. above, in new user. So, it's something to do with SL1.23 viewer and Google Chrome?

Restart into old user using on-off switch. Google Chrome (the old one not the new one! unresponsive, spinning beachball cursor; ditto Firefox, Safari. Force-quit and restart. Won't restart off apple menu, have to use on-off-switch.

So the problem does seem to be that web reader activities are compromised by SL1.23 which then crashes the machine. I can't think it through any more clearly than that. Would appreciate comments!

  19. Jocomo and everyone else: if you actually _like_ V2 then, until an official fix is put out by Linden, try FIRESTORM. It runs perfectly under OS10.7 Lion.

(It's a version of V2 that can be customised so that its as user-friendly as the old V.123, Hippo, Imprudence etc. Here's where you can find it:

    http://www.phoenixviewer.com/downloads.php

and here's a neat You-Tube on how to customise it. Its really easy!

  20. I've just switched to Lion and can get online okay BUT my viewer can't find the Sky Files: the ones that give you dawn, noon dusk and midnight lighting.

The veiwer I'm using is V.123; but the problem is the same with Hippo and Imprudence. Thank gods I didnt try it with V2: at least I can get in to SL...

Also, for anyone here with real techie know-how: I have the same difficulty (can't find the Sky files) when I try these viewers to access other grids. If that gives you a clue as to what's wrong in Lion...

    ****

Just finished a chat with Concierge, who says there are already JIRA reports posted regarding Phoenix, Firestorm, Imprudence and the official V2. Please, can you visit the JIRAs and add your vote for a quick resolution of the problem? Here's what Concierg said: 'According to my support the next release will include a fix for it but right now we do not have a fix yet. I did see a possible solution for the phoenix viewer http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-2297 let me go ahead and list it here ok, you can try downloading it and check if it might let you into SL'

    Good luck everyone!
