  1. Looks like the sticking point for that meeting was the increase in cost for adding a script to something. Thats the one thing that I would like to see addressed as well.

The one question I did not see asked: What is the difference between a server loading a regular prim with a script and the server loading a mesh with a script? I think answering that question would go a long way. Is it possibly because you can not predict the complexity of a given mesh?

I had argued previously for a simple to understand formula, such as 500 triangles = 1 prim, but that is not what we have.

While I have only looked a little into mesh for SL, this here is what would make the most sense.

Poly counts are not an exact thing, but they are a darned good indicator of how much processing power something will take. Regardless of how complex something may be(save for the most complex of objects perhaps), its shape is still determined by its vertice locations and how they are connected. I was looking forward to seeing mesh come to SL, but they seem like they are going to make sure everyone gets a headache trying to figure things out. I figured that it would mean alot of things could be optimized while still looking good(and thus alot of lag would get reduced), but if they are going to tack on severe penalties for stuff, adoption isnt going to be quite as wide spread as I would have hoped.

The aliens coming for resources scenario is also an unlikely thing to take place. The amount of resources in the asteroid belt and on other planets/moons in our solar system far eclipses those on earth so they wouldnt need to mess with our planet at all. In the case of aliens actually deciding to come and exploit our planet, they would likely do as previously said and release a virus or something of that nature; perhaps something like a neutron bomb would also be used.

I can picture mining asteroids for metals and probably small amounts of water, but the other planets in our solar system either have very little to offer or the environmental conditions on the surface are too extreme (think of Venus with its extreme atmospheric pressure and insanely hot surface temperatures). Besides, it is pretty hard to keep livestock or grow lettuce in the asteroid belt
    :)

Very little to offer is completely wrong. Everything in the solar system was made from the same stuff, so the other planets and everything in them will have resources similiar to Earth; elemental and basic natural compounds, excluding biologically formed materials of course. Concentrations would be different, but saying they have little in the way of resources to offer is completely wrong. Mabe you dont realize it, but Jupiter's moon Europa has several times the amount of water that Earth does(several oceans worth, would have to look up the exact amount) and the asteriod Ceres has more fresh water than Earth has. A little water this is not.

As for environment, this is what enclosed living areas and atmospheric processors/terrforming is for. I suppose I forgot to mention that the other scenario of aliens colonizing Earth would also only be for a short time in their development and hence unlikely. Wanna bet I could grow stuff in the asteroid belt? Its called hydroponics, or heck, bring/make soil to grow stuff in.

  4. As cool as the alien invasion scenario makes for entertainment, the reality of it happening is very unlikely. In fact if there was any chance at all an alien species would do this, it would be only a small window in the overall development of their culture. This would be due to the fact that perhaps robotics and automation lagged interstellar travel or something along those lines; still very unlikely though. However, if they did want slave labor, they would probably do like what was shown in one of the Outer Limits tv shows and grab a few people unoticed from this planet and then create a breeding population which would be altered to be submissive and obediant.

In reality, aliens would probably be more interested in watching and studying us(and probably already are if you looked at the evidence for such stuff) Given that the universe is almost 14 billion years old and by about 10 billion years, all the elements required for life would have already formed(heavy elements, planets, etc), there are likely to be alien races out there that excede us in technology by several billion years. Interesting question is just what can a million to a billion years of advancement in all areas of technology get you?

  5. I do delete stuff from my mute list every now and then as after a while, its rare I will see the person or object I muted again. Not that I mute too many people anyway.

  6. If he wasnt actually doing anything then I would have ignored him. Like someone said above he would be like a creepy grey shadow. Really though I think anyone who watched me on here would get bored real quick.

Which is another point, you could always leave your account on even when not using it, he wouldnt be able to tell if you were there or not(or he might, but I am sure he cant stay at his computer forever) and surely get bored of watching you stand there doing nothing. Another point is that this person must have a job or must sleep or something, there has to be a time when he isnt on. Imagine if hes like several hours ahead or behind you, he wouldnt be able to stay up that late or get up so early that often.
