  1.      Mike,

If your grand plan to screen individuals is "voice", I suggest you think it through seriously. I know of many fully mature individuals who sound quite young as well as many early teens who sound quite mature. The human voice, is a lovely thing, but is by no means an indicator of age. That is without even consicerring the quality sound cards and voice morph technology available for little or nothing.

  2.    Actually Shockwavew, you couldn't be more wrong regarding the guy at 7-11. As someone who has been involved in the food and beverage as well as retail industry I speak from first hand knowledge. If a bar-tender serves a minor, even if they look to be 40..or accept a false ID, not only arethey held criminaly liable, the establishment is also held liable.

The fines are heavy with possible jail time and nearly certain termination. This has been the case in every state in which I have worked, which is somewhere north of 15.

Your risk has been no more mitigated by the fact that they had to lie in oredr to gain access than anything.

  3.     Graphic,

As I pinted out very near the top of this discussion, kids ARE on the main grid, they have been for years. The simple fact that LL didn't allow it gave adults no more protection under the law than they will enjoy under the new system.

If you have cyber with a teen, you are responsible..period..end of sentence. Just as if you meet someone in a bar who happens to have a fake ID...try this one in court.."But your honor, I met her at club ZDS ans she should have been 21. How was I to know she was 17?" Think that will turn out well?

  4.    Graphic,

Thank you. I know that this is not a popular move for either group. I wager that less than 5% of either group are happy about it. What I have been trying to do all along is inform the adults, that if they modify their behaviors only slightly, this need not be a fiasco.

I personally, chose to enter SL with those behaviors, not all did and I respect that. At the time that was a valid option. I am neither a prude, an SL virgin..and to be honest..in some peoples eyes, I am evil incarnate. I deal with thast in my own way, it is part of me.

I am only being vocal on this issue as it can have serious repercussions on many. I seek only o help in this transition. Maybe I should just be quiet and go back to my SL work...live my life as I always have and let everyone else figure it out on their own. Yeah, that's not me..sorry!  lol

  5.   You're looking at the math wrong. while there may be 26K sims in SL, how many are general? Of that mumber, how many actually border mature sims?

I've said all along that I disaggree with this move, however it is going to happen and those who engage in risky behaviors need to re-evaluate that.

I as an individual can't change the world, apparently, even we as a community can't stop this change. All we can do is inform each other, watch out for things that go wrong and report them

I have not, and won't claim to be perfect. In fact, I assert that I am far from it. What I can say, is that I abide by the rules as stated and do my best to be a good citizen of both worlds. Anyone who has taken anything that I have said to mean differently is sorely mistaken

  6. Kayosan,

You truly do not understand me at all. I spend my days at work (at two jobs) watching parents hand their children who are already 30 pounds over weight breaded fried snacks to keep them quiet. I deal with parents who think it's unfair of the school system to close during a blizzard and rob them of their free child care.

I do know the responsibilities, the time involved and the sacrefices made to properly raise a child. The fact that I do not have one doesn't change that.

  7.    Graphic, I truly do feel that a large portion of parents are irresponsible. This may not apply to you or to anyone here. I'm simply saying that it is the parents, not me who are responsible for teaching their children how to interact in the world...RL and SL.

It's quite obvious, reading the posts from parents here that they doubt the ability of other parents to do this. If it weren't, most everyone would be ok with this move.

The teens would reside happily in their general sims, adults wouldn't be seeking them out for inappropriate behavior and if it happened, the teen would know how to deal with it. Granted, this isn't the world we live in..sad but true

  8.     Kayosan,

My parents did quite a fine job of raising me. The fact that I do not have children does not change my maternal/fraternal instincts. Sadly, far too many parents seek only to rid themselves of their obligation to raise and educate their offspring.

I see it dailly in my RL work and have heard it repeatedly in various posts in these and other forums.

Whether you choose to believe it or not, adults have a responsibility in life. No matter where you are or what you are doing. You, as an adult, are responsible for your own actions.

  9.    Sorry to burst your bubble Graphic. None of our managers are directly paid. They earn a slightly better percebtage of their tips..nad maybe a small bonus each month. I'm quite sure that there are thousands out there that would accept such a position.

In another club, there was an actual owner there for about 21 of 24 hours. I'm sorry, but if the owners wish to recieve the profits, they must make some sort of sacrefice.

  10.    Graphic,

I beg to differ. Rules and laws..right amd wrong are a reasonably stable thing. What I'm saying, is that if parents took the time and energy to properly educate their children, this would be a moot point. However, far too many prefer to shuffle the kids off to the computer while they watch a mopvie etc.

Raise and mentor your children properly, only then will they be equipped to face the RL and cyber worlds.

Adults, stop stalking kids, seek help.

It really doesn't have to be this hard people..honest

  11.    Just saving a bit of time here.

Kayosan, 13 year olds are NOT coming to the main grid. They are only allowed in sponsored ares. That said, if I had a child, they would have been educated in how to deal with the world as it is. The parent is ultimately responsible for their childrens behavior.

Graphic. If I had children, I would take responsibility to educate then on the dangers and risks of this world. Those who don't act in such a manner are completely derelict in their responsibilities.

  12.     Moon,

I completely agree as I have stated above. The teens will only be allowed to be "physically" present on general sims. If we, as adults, conduct ourselves properly in these settings, then there will be no issue.

For those adults who engage in random, anonymous, sigth unseen smexies with any cute avi that just happens to IM hem and flirt a bit? Well, I guess..nevermind..you know where that is ghoing.

To sim owners, it is no large task to allow your managers to log into a tip jar and act as manager/host/hostess. In that way you are actually paying nothing and getting 24/7 monitoring of your sim.

Once again, it is afterall, your life, your reputation and your investment. If you choose to be irresponsible and lazy about it..to spend more time thinking about the ways it could hurt you than how to avoid it..shame on you.

Teens are here now, a few more will be here soon. Whether or not we like it or not, it is a fact. I personally welcome those forced from their homeland so long as they abide by the rules in place. I challenge all responsible adults to do the same.

  13.     MoonFairy,

I would allow a teen to roam SL under the proposed guidelines were it not for adults seeking to define what constitutes general/PG to suit their ends. As was stated in a post far above

I go to a sim that is rated PG to keep out the nudies. They accept profanity, etc and on and on. This, is by definition a mature sim who's owners are too lazy and or too cheap to properly monitor and moderate their own sim.

The owners and managers and staff of said club are resp;onsible for maintaining the stated rules and standards. I can, if I choose, TP into a general sim completely naked and if no one is around, stay there for hours.

Owners and staff MUST accept some responsibility for their sim. Afterall, it is they who reap any reward, so it is they who must work to make it happen.

  14.     Hi Sama,

In response to your camming issue, in most jurisdictions, someone commiting a crime can't sub sequently report a crime witnessed while in the act and are very reluctant to do so. Imagine the testimony?? "I climbed the trellis, attached my extendable binoculars to a stick and looked in the window, to find, in my horror, a feral cat and a were wolf having smexies with an android shemale"

  15.      Hi again everyone!

We've discussed/argued a lot of points here. Also, many of these points have been argued ad infinitum in other posts and blogs over the last few months. In that time and prior, a few facts have come to light, facts which I challenge anyone to dispute and that we all should have and will have to live with.

Fact - Teens have and always will find ways to circumvent the rules. There have been teens on the main grid for as long as I have been here and certainly before that. Those of you who assumed that the fact that SL was supposedly an "All Adult" playground protected you in some legal sense from prosectution are far more naive and mis-informed than I find acceptable.

Fact - Adults, in many cases, will seek to bend, fold, mutilate and stretch the rules. I've dealt with this in my SL frequently. "Well, this is a mature sim so I can be naked if I choose to be." I've heard such drivel nearly dailly and dealt with it as needed. Honestly people, you habe to understand that just because you are in a suppoed mature/adult environment, that there MAY be those who fall into the Fact 1 category. Anyone who ventures into a bar in a college town or almost any other has to make the reasonable assumption that there might be some sexy thing with a fake ID. Trust me, telling the judge that you met her at "Club XYZ, will not excuse your offense.

Fact - A few teens are coming to the main grid. Guess what? These are the ones who have chosen to play by the rules for the most part. Yes, I'm sure not all, but for the most part, they didn't lie about their age to access the main grid. Some have ripped content, so have adults. That is and always will be a fact of life.

Fact - As humans, we are responsible for our own actions. This applies to everyone, whether you are 13 or 73. If a 13 year old malisciously and with forethought kills someone, they will face dire consequences. Adults that don't make a reasonable attempt to assure that their sexual prtner is old enough to consent will face the same.

Fact - Just because you are choosing to interact with others in a pixelized realm makes you no less part of being human. You are bound by law to conduct yourself in a manner which would be defensible in court. There are various websites which are specifically against the law in my particular area. If I choose to visit them, I am subject to severe penalty under law. The same applies here.

Fact - I'm sure that a majority of teens are just as upset and uncertain of the effects of this merger as we adults are. I say to them, be honest at all times. Be proud that you are a teen who chooses to visit this amazing place. Understand that you will run inot adults who feel that you are infringing on their territory, and accept that you have been forced to be here.

Fact - It's a huge world! I feel confident that there is more than enough room for us all to coexist, possibly learn from each other and move forward.

  16.    Ahh Kayosan.

How nice of you to take a snippet of a converstaion, mis-read it and make asasumptions. What I said was that I don't have cyber in IM only, meaning that my partner is always in the same location as me.

I also, in my time in SL owned adult rated sims, managed mature and adult clubs and been very involved in group building etc. I regularly support the designers of adult furniture etc, (looks at Linden balance and sighs)

I did peek at your profile, very nicely done and of course completely in line with standards.

Just as an informational point, AR = Abuse Report. That would be when you notice something that falls outside proper conduct or are griefed, you can report it to the Lab and hopefully let them take care of it.

  17.     Kayosan

As I've stated a couple of times above, I never..EVER have sex solely in IM. It somehow seems odd to even consider in such a grapically rich environment such as SL. I also never engage in behavior that would be innappropriate in any setting on a PG sim.

I am aware of the differences in laws between the countries and understand that. Again, if one uses a modicum of common sense and follows the TOS as written then you shouldn't run a risk of som, ething occurring.

I also am aware of the TOS/CS violating "Adult" profiles etc that are on the grid. I don't like them, but ti's not something that I can combat unless I choose to spend the majority of my SL time AR'ing everyone showing a nude pic or having innappropriate content in their profile.

Also, I am aware that if you engage in sex while knowing that a minor is watching, you are liable. However, so long as you are on a mature sim, inside or on an adult sim, then you can't be, since a minor will not be allowed access.
