What do you guys do for fun?

When I'm bored in SL I "play" another "game": RL.

(I know this seems a stupid answer to your question, but it is my best answer).

You should also know that the percentage of people that read and post is this forum is insignificant compared to those in SL itself and those choosing to take the time to respond here are self selecting. Last I knew these conditions don't yield statistically valid results. So it is imperative you go in world and do a lot of research for more than a few days too.

"That is the question" (copyright Shakespeare ;) )

If I am preparing a thesis about New Yorkers, I can not do a survey only to the inhabitants of three adjacent homes in the same neighborhood.

The SL forums are a very tiny part of the Second Life Residents. I'm pretty sure you are allowed by LL to publish in this forums your survey (your survey it is not against the Community Participation Guidelines: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Community_Participation_Guidelines ). But I'm almost sure of no academic value of the survey results :)

  3. First of all, check your inventory: with the Direct Delivery system, your objects - assuming the Merchant is using Direct Delivery and not Magix Box - may be in a folder named "Received Items" at the very bottom of the inventory window (under the library folders). If they are not there, here's what to do:

See your Order History ( https://marketplace.secondlife.com/orders ) in the Marketplace. If really the item has been delivered and you have been charged (see your Account History in your Dashboard: https://secondlife.com/my/account/transactions.php?lang=en ) then read the Knowledge Base about "Unreceived and accidentally descarted items":

    Unreceived and accidentally descarted items

Has it been more than 24 hours since you ordered? If so, contact the merchant, explain what happened, and politely request redelivery of the item. If it has been less than 24 hours, please be patient and check again later. If the merchant doesn't respond, you can submit a support case requesting redelivery. Make sure to include the order number and the exact name of the undelivered item(s).

Slow deliveries may currently be more noticeable because you now have a cart to which you can add multiple items. (This wasn't the case with the old Xstreet, which closed for purchases in October 2010.) Unfortunately, we can only send so many items at a time.

32px-KBnote.png Note: There are several interrelated causes that slow down delivery. We are hard at work on creating a faster and more reliable Marketplace system that will soon make Magic Boxes obsolete.

  4. If you don't know the name of the Resident, use "Governor Linden" in the Abuse Report.

32px-KBtip.pngTip: If you don't know the offender's name, choose "Governor Linden" as a placeholder and explain in the report details.

PS. Your question raises questions me, but either way not concern me :)

  6. From the KB article about that message ( http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Login-failure/ta-p/700109#Section_.1.3a ):

DNS could not resolve the host name

This error may also appear as:

    • Host http not found
    • Login failed. Unable to connect to a simulator.

These messages indicate that your computer has a general networking issue with the domain name service (DNS) that translates numerical IP addresses into human-readable ones.

Confirm that you can reach internet sites such as secondlife.com, Google, or others.  Once your computer can connect to these websites, this error should no longer occur.

Also check whether there is a wider issue with Seond Life, as described below.

Usually, restarting your computer and your router will resolve this issue.   If not, contact your internet service provider.  You may also wish to try using Google's DNS servers to see if that will resolve the issue.  See Using Google Public DNS for more information.
